Dr. Edgar Tuckler

Dr. Edgar V. Tuckler, 77, of Beaumont died on August 21, 2020, after courageously battling the Covid-19 virus. He was born in Managua, Nicaragua, where he graduated from medical school. In 1970, our family moved from Managua to New York City so that our dad could continue his medical training and surgical residency.  We also lived in North Carolina, Virginia, and Ohio during his training. Due to his hard work and dedication, Edgar was selected to be the chief surgical resident of all the residents in his group, a distinguished and honorary position.

Our family moved back to Nicaragua in July 1976 so our dad could start his medical and surgical practice. However, we moved back to the United States at the end of 1977 in order to avoid the civil war and violence that started while we were there. The government in Nicaragua was overthrown shortly after we left.  We eventually settled in Beaumont, Texas where our father practiced medicine for over thirty years.  Our entire family proudly became United States citizens after we returned.

He is survived by his beautiful and loving wife, Lillian, of Beaumont; son Victor E. Tuckler M.D. and wife Shelly of New Orleans, LA.; son, Jorge A. Tuckler and wife Elizabeth of San Antonio, TX; and daughter Maria A. Foshee of Beaumont; brother, Gersan Tuckler and his wife Antonia of Glen Allen, Virginia; and sister, Nena Quinonez and her late husband Francisco of Miami, Florida.  Edgar is also survived by his grandchildren, Jesse, Staci, and Lily Marie; and numerous nephews, nieces, and many friends that will miss him dearly.

Our parents emphasized education and the importance of going to school. Our dad had a passion for music, reading, and teaching. He collected hundreds of CD’s and books over the years.  He also loved playing the piano.  After he retired from his medical practice, he taught English and Spanish classes for many years. He held the classes for his students at public libraries in Beaumont and at his home.  He was also part a book club and a movie club where there were in-depth discussions about the assigned reading or movie. 

Our parents taught us the importance of being respectful to everyone and being responsible for one’s actions. They selflessly made thousands of sacrifices, known and unknown, so that Victor, Maria and I could have opportunities that we could never have found in Nicaragua. Our mother, Lillian, is heartbroken over the loss of her husband.  They were married for sixty years.  They overcame many obstacles and challenges for the sake of their children. This is a very hard and emotional time for our family.  However, we take comfort in knowing that our dad is at home in heaven and resting in peace. We love him very much and will miss him. May God Bless our dad, mom and entire family.    

A memorial service for Dr. Tuckler will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 7, 2020, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A family committal was held at Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.
