Enos Thibodeaux, Jr.

September 29, 1926 - June 8, 2019

Enos Thibodeaux, Jr., passed away peacefully in the evening of June 8, 2019 with his loving wife of almost 73 years (June 22nd) by his side at The Arboretum in Winnie, Texas. Enos was born on September 22, 1926 in Mermentau, Louisiana as a fourth and final son to Theoza Richard Thibodeaux and Enos Thibodeaux, Sr.

He married Lovinia Bourque on June 22, 1946 and from that union came two sons, Kenneth Ray Thibodeaux and Wade Alan Thibodeaux. Shortly after World War II, Enos and Lovinia moved to Winnie, Texas in search of work where he remained a resident until his death. He worked in the rice fields of various farmers until other opportunities came along and he eventually took a job with Turner Lumber Company and that is where his love of the lumber business developed. At some point, he decided to risk it all and opened a small paint and flooring store on the corner of 2nd Street and Magnolia in Winnie. He built that small enterprise into a complete lumber and hardware store known as Thib’s Building Supplies which he eventually sold in 1977, known today as Gullfway Lumber. Included in the lumber business was a home building business in which he built many homes in Winnie and the surrounding areas. After selling the business in 1977, he was still relatively a young man at the age of 50 and spent several years assisting his sister in the livestock feed business of Winnie Feed and Supply. Eventually he semi-retired and spent his time piddling with cows and bailing hay.

Enos was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leo Thibodeaux, Nelson Thibodeaux, and Wilton Thibodeaux; sister, Mary F. (Flossie) Stutes; and three nephews.

He is survived by his wife of seventy-two years, Lovinia Thibodeaux; sons, Kenneth Ray Thibodeaux and his wife, Roberta and Wade Alan Thibodeaux; grandsons, Kenneth Wayne Thibodeaux and his wife, Darlene; Kyle Edward Thibodeaux; and John Wyatt Thibodeaux; granddaughter, Annie Elizabeth Thibodeaux; great-grandsons, Dylan Wayne Thibodeaux, Kody James Thibodaux, Hunter Thibodeaux, and Jaxon Thibodeaux; sister, Wilda Eve Thibodeaux; and fifteen nieces and nephews.

A gathering of Mr. Thibodeaux family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with his Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie, by the Knights of Columbus Council 3452 in honor of him being a member for more than fifty years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at St. Louis Catholic Church, 315 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie, with his interment following at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Thibodeaux’s memory to Knights of Columbus Council 3452, P.O. Box 1300, Winnie, Texas 77665.

I am saddened to discover that your dad died and wish I'd known earlier, for I would most certainly have been at his funeral. He was a gentle, sweet and kind person. Please know that you are all in my prayers. Betty Gaspard-Peebles

Enos and my husband Wayne were very good friends. He built our house in Mont Belvieu and we were very pleased all the years that we lived there. He was a very kind caring person.
