Eva Arenas

August 12, 1925 - April 19, 2017

Eva Cantu Arenas, 91, of Nederland, died Wednesday, April 19, 2017. She was born on August 12, 1925, in Port Arthur, to Victoria Gutierrez Cantu and Juan Cantu, Sr.

Eva enjoyed cooking for her family, and anyone that showed up to eat. She loved going out to eat, especially with her friends. In earlier days, she loved to hear her family sing and made all their costumes for their performances.

Survivors include her daughters, Carolyn Link and her husband, Mark, and Leticia Guarnere and her husband, Bruce, all of Nederland; son-in-law, Nolan Simon; grandchildren, Molli Hall and her husband, Chris; James Simon and his wife, Lacey; Meagan Landry and her husband, Jeff Thompson; Catey Garcia and her husband, Brandon; Natalie Hernandez and her husband, Daniel; Crissy Kicak and her husband, David; Jessica Battenfield and her husband, Kris; Daniel Guarnere and his wife, Andrea; and Amanda Lynch and her husband, Daniel; seventeen great-grandchildren; brother, Raul Cantu, of Nederland; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cipriano “Joe” Arenas; daughter, Linda Simon; four brothers, John E. Cantu, A.C. Cantu, Hector Cantu, and Eloy Cantu; and sister, Amelia Villegas.

Leticia and Bruce Guarnere and family, along with Carolyn and Mark Link and family, would like to give our deepest and sincerest thanks to our dearest JoAnn. A caregiver beyond measure. She has been with Mama for the last four years and has become part of our family. Thank you, JoAnn, for your care and for teaching us more patience. We would also like to give our sincere thanks to Century Hospice. To Dawn, Erica, Olivia, Nicole, and Nick. Your guidance and support has been such a wonderful blessing. We couldn’t have done this without your help. Mama loved you all so much and looked forward to seeing each of you. We will treasure your friendship forever.

A gathering of Mrs. Arenas’ family will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with her Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Friday, April 21, 2017, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 22, 2017, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 211 Hardy, Nederland, with her interment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves.
