Frankie Raye Clayton Brown

October 4, 1923 - May 23, 2020

Escorted on the wings of angels, Frankie Raye Clayton Brown passed peacefully into the loving arms of God on May 23, 2020.

Frankie Raye was born in Sour Lake, Texas, on October 4, 1923. She kept close ties to the Sour Lake community throughout her life and cherished her parents, Edward and Nettie Clayton, her brother, Edward Clayton, Jr., and sister, Dolores Foster. She often spoke of her idyllic childhood and the lifelong values of love, honor, kindness, generosity and faith they instilled in her and that she passed on to her children.

She married Edd Seymour Brown on October 25, 1939. They carried a special bond and a lifelong commitment to each other and their family until his death in 1998. They were a perfect match for each other and were completely devoted to their marriage vows.

Anyone and everyone who knew Frankie Raye knew of her fierce love for her family. She was always there for both of her children no matter what. She was steadfast in going above and beyond to show her love and concern for her children throughout her life. Her daughter, Delraye, always says, “She took the Mom job seriously.” Her daughter-in-law, Molly, said she will always remember her coming up to Dallas every month with an ice chest filled with their favorite foods, each with a special note of love on top of each container.

Frankie Raye loved life and enjoyed every minute. Always with a sense of humor and quick wit, she would joke she would fight leaving this world as she loved her life and family so much. She loved to travel and had over a dozen trips to Hawaii and countless trips to Las Vegas. She would always remark she had her bags packed and was ready to go.

Frankie Raye was preceded in death by her husband, Edd Seymour Brown; her brother, Edward Clayton, Jr.; her sister, Dolores Foster; and her son-in-law, Henry B. Gibson. She is survived by her daughter, Delraye Brown Gibson; her son, Edward Clayton Brown and his wife, Molly; and her beloved Chihuahua, Taco.

Lissa Harrison the daughter of Frankie Raye’s lifelong friend from kindergarten, Irene Loftin, shared this special prayer with Delraye the day before her passing.

“May you be wrapped up in God’s love. Found deep in his everlasting wings. Carried and kept safe and cherished. May the healing power of Christ breathe across your being now. Amen.” – Unknown.

The family would like to thank Jefferson Nursing and Rehabilitation for all of the loving care they extended to her over the past five years and to Compassion Hospice for their compassionate care.

A graveside service for Mrs. Brown will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 26, 2020, at Rosedale Cemetery, Sour Lake, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.

Memorials in her honor may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 3810 North Major Drive, Beaumont, Texas 77713.

Her obituary was written by Molly Jones Brown.
