Gay Carol Furbee

September 27, 1939 - June 12, 2021

Gay Carol Furbee, 81, of Port Arthur, died Saturday, June 12, 2021. She was born September 27, 1939, in Nederland to Ruby and Robert Greenberg.

Gay was a graduate of Nederland High School and Lamar State College as a certified radiologist. She worked in Beaumont and Houston as a Lab Technician for twenty-five years. Gay met the love of her life, Jim Furbee, while working in Houston. They enjoyed thirty-seven years of traveling together and attending church, family, and social gatherings.

Gay was a people-person and could spend hours visiting, laughing, and interacting. She looked forward to playing dominoes with Golden Friends at church and Rose Place. One of her favorite activities was going out to eat with friends and family. Yard work, exercising, and shopping were her favorite past times. Gay’s “Love of Life” personality had a tendency to light up the room wherever she was present.

Survivors include her nieces, Dr. Michelle Anson and husband, Dr. Byron Anson, and their children, Harris, Avery, and Grant, all of San Antonio and Heather Greenberg, of Austin; and many cousins and dear friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Greenberg; husband, Jim Furbee; and brothers, Norman and Bobby Greenberg.

A gathering of Mrs. Furbee’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with her funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 17, 2021, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.

Sweet Mrs. Furby. I brought Holy Communion to the Catholic residents of Rose Place prior to COVID. Gay was not Catholic, but she touched my heart with her smile and wit. She was usually having or just finishing breakfast when I’d get there and she was always watching for me. She would wave, motion me over and give a great big hug and usually had something funny to say. She brought so much love and laughter to everyone. I’m so very sorry I can’t attend her service, as I have not fully recovered from a Quadruple bypass surgery. I’m sure heaven is a much happier place with her there. She told me once that she was not Catholic, but she had attended Mass there that week, so I could call her a Metholic. Rest In Peace my precious friend. ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you for sharing your beautiful memories. I can hear her saying "Metholic!" She was my father's sister, and she was a ray of light in all of our lives. I am blessed to have known her and to have been in her family.
