Gaylord John Earney

Gaylord John Earney, known as “Jake” to his many friends and family, passed away on December 25, 2018, at 5:30 p.m. at the age of 99 years. Gaylord lived the last years of his adventurous life at Calder Woods, in Beaumont, Texas.

Gaylord was retired from the United States Air Force after a career spanning 26 years of service. He retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel at Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis, New Mexico. After his retirement, he worked for John Hancock Insurance, and ARA Services serving as the director of Food Services in several hospitals around the State of Texas before finally retiring in San Antonio, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Helen; and his parents, Martin J. Earney and Madeline Schroeder Earney, along with his step-mother, Evelyn Herold Earney. Gaylord was the oldest of five children. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Lyle, Glen (infant who died at birth), and Glen all of Minnesota. He is survived by his sister, Pauline Ann Dittrich from Minnesota. He is also survived by his children, Michael and his wife, Edna; and daughter, Jane Stetz and her husband, Charles. He loved his grandchildren, Christina Baylor and husband, Adam, with great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Jake Baylor; Michelle Schroeder and her husband, David with great-grandchild, Henry Schroeder; Jennifer Smith and her husband, Kenneth, with great-grandchildren, Hunter and Lorelei Smith.

Gaylord was a faithful member of St. Jude Catholic Church while he lived in Beaumont and Infant Jesus Catholic Church while he lived in Lumberton, Texas, with his son, Michael.

A Christian Vigil will be held for Mr. Earney at 6:00 p.m., with a gathering to follow until 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 28, 2018, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Gaylord will be buried alongside his wife, Helen, at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio.

    Mike I am so sorry for your loss. I always enjoyed visiting with your Dad when we both lived on Sun Meadiow. I would be walking my dogs and he would stop and talk for a few minutes.. Sending prayers for you and your family.
