Gina Jill Medley

November 27, 1954 - November 06, 2019

Gina Jill Medley

Gina Jill Medley, age 64, passed away November 6, 2019, at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. She is survived by Michael, her husband; Devin, her daughter; Tommy and his wife, Kaye and David Leon and his wife, Bobbie, her brothers; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gina was born in Beaumont on November 27, 1954 to Virginia Hall Leon and John Lucious “Blackie” Leon. Her family lived on Easy Street and then the notorious Devon Drive. The stories and life-long friends that developed from her life on that street would shape and influence her as a child and stay with her all her life.

She worked as a court reporter for Nell McCallum and Associates for over 30 years, gaining and maintaining a reputation as one of the most reliable and hard-working court reporters in the Beaumont and Houston areas. Her work led her to people that would bring her joy, friendships, and eventually her husband, making work that much more rewarding.

She met Michael on a blind date at the local Olive Garden and the rest is history. They were an incomparable couple, becoming even more complete with the birth of their only child, Devin. Gina was the most devoted, loving, selfless, and supportive mother. From working behind the scenes of Devin’s theatrical shows to sitting in the cold watching softball games to driving to choir and theatre auditions at ungodly hours, Gina encouraged her daughter to do her best and believed in her daughter’s dreams.

Her heart for animals was enormous, beginning with her Pomeranian Poo-Dee-Doo and then her beloved Lobo. Over the last 25 years she would have her heart stolen by cats, specifically Alex, Molly, and Zoey, along with her four favorite stray cats. Gina believed that family was the most important thing in life, and it showed in her actions. Whether it was going to her nephews’ football or baseball games, visiting her brothers over the weekend, cooking the most coveted gumbo to share, or flying to South Dakota, her favorite place, to be with her lovable but eclectic in-laws, she was always ready to show up for her family.

A gathering of Mrs. Medley’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 15, 2019, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 16, 2019, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 4090 Delaware, Beaumont. A family committal will be held at Broussard’s Crematorium.

Memorial contributions can be made to The Humane Society of Southeast Texas, P.O. Box 1629, Beaumont, Texas 77704.

There will never be anyone like Gina Medley. She was one-of-a-kind!! I still can’t wrap my head around this loss of my friend, and from time-to-time, my co-worker. We bonded over our love of animals, and often talked on how to help the ones no one wanted. Her beloved cats were fortunate to have found her. I know Gina’s greatest loves were Mike and Devin. Her world changed when she became a mother, and it shows in her talented, kind, and devoted daughter. Gina will be missed by so many and this loss is a big one. Lifting the Medley, Leon and Lane families up in prayer. ❤️

I convinced Gina she should go to Court reporting school and then convinced Virginia she should support her financially in that endeavor. Neither knew I was talking to the other. It was a good decision by both of them. Gina was committed and gave school her all. She became one of the best reporters anywhere. I would love to have many just like her. She was respected by peers and clients. We will miss her greatly, as a friend and as a colleague. Mike and Devin, you made her life complete. As you know, she adored both of you. When asked what Devin was up to, the lights came on; she positively glowed as she talked about Devin’s latest accomplishment.
We were friends for a long time before she became a reporter, and we had many fun times at the beach and fun trips. I shall always remember Gina with a smile on my face. I know G-D has welcomed her home to be with Virginia & Blackie, her beloved parents and other loved ones.
Mike and Devin, I pray G-D gives you the peace and comfort only He offers.
    My love & prayers, Nell

Mike and Devon, May God blessings be with you all and the family. Great neighbors . Gina and I sat in the doctor’s office about a year ago it was a beautiful time just laughing about our great neighborhood. God has an angel. Stay strong I have a picture of Gina and me from the last snow that we had I’ll cherish this memory always.
