Glenn Sibley

January 17, 1940 - May 30, 2018

Glenn Franklin Sibley, 78, of Nederland, died Wednesday, May 30, 2018. He was born on January 17, 1940, in Nederland, to Maymie Catherine Harrison Sibley and William Cecil Sibley.

Glenn served in the United States Army Reserve for eight years. He retired from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department after thirty-six years of service, and he was very proud when he achieved the rank of Major in the Warrants Division.

Glenn loved his family and friends. He always looked forward to the annual Sibley Family Reunion. If he wasn’t entertaining the kids with his police siren, he could be found at the dominoes table with his brothers and nephews. Although Sharon was his only child, he was like a father to many others. He never met a stranger, and he always had a story to tell – some of those tales may have been taller than others.

Glenn also enjoyed spending time at Toledo Bend with his buddies. One of his favorite pastimes was fishing off of his pontoon boat. He was never much of a hunter, but he certainly enjoyed supervising everyone else on those trips. He will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Survivors include his daughter, Sharon Sibley of New Orleans, Louisiana and her mother, Betty Elliott of Nederland; brothers, William Daune Sibley and wife, Dot, of Shreveport, Louisiana; Tyrus Sibley and wife, Sue, of Shreveport, Louisiana; Joe Sibley and wife, Darlene, of Nuevo Valley, California; Richard Sibley and wife, Charlotte, of Nederland; sister-in-law, Lawana Sibley of Tyler; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Sibley; and sister, Dorothy Greene.

A gathering of Mr. Sibley’s family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., with his memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 9, 2018, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His cremation arrangements will be under the direction of Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.
