Guadalupe “Lupe” Vela Arriola

Guadalupe “Lupe” Vela Arriola, 83, of Nederland, died Tuesday, May 23, 2017. She was born on January 21, 1934, in Wharton, to Maria Olvera and Juan Vela.

When she was younger she made wedding cakes, catered weddings and enjoyed dancing. She helped build Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church by getting donations and physical laborers. She was a Eucharistic minister at church.

Survivors include her daughter, Alice Thibeault and her husband, Guy, of Nederland; granddaughter, Gillian Carter and her husband, Andrew, Jr., of Beauxart Garden; and sister, Anita Herrera of McQueeney.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Pedro R. Arriola; son, Michael V. Arriola; and sister, Delores Lozano.

A private family committal will be held at a later date at Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.
