Huey Long Zoch, Sr.

October 28, 1935 - May 13, 2018

Huey Long Zoch, Sr., 82, lifelong resident of Beaumont, died Sunday, May 13, 2018, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, Beaumont. He was born on October 28, 1935, to Maude Sweeny Zoch and Fred Zoch, Sr., in Beaumont. Huey graduated from South Park High School in 1954. Mr. Zoch was a Blacksmith for twenty years, then became the owner and operator of Huey Long Zoch Backhoe Service.

Huey is survived by his wife of thirty-seven years, Catherine Russell Duerler Zoch; brother Arthur Zoch; Children, Huey Zoch, Jr., Jim Zoch, Bridgette Duerler Hall, Wayne Duerler, Jr., Donna Duerler, and John Duerler; grandchildren, Jay Robert Zoch, Julie Zoch, Heather Monnier, Charles Simmons, Jr., Stephanie Simmons, Rebecca Robinson, Blake Duerler, Shea Duerler, Caitlin Duerler, Allie Duerler, Jackson Duerler, Liam Duerler, Jailea Zoch and Jillian Zoch; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred Zoch, Sr., and Maude Sweeny Zoch; brothers Frank Zoch, Fred Zoch, Jack Zoch, Mike Zoch, Patrick Zoch; sister, Fredia Zoch; and previous wife, Ellen Nelson Zoch.

A gathering of Mr. Zoch’s family and friends will begin at 5:00 p.m., with a Christian Vigil to follow at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at Saint Anthony Cathedral Basilica, 700 Jefferson Street, Beaumont, with interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery.

Huey was a fine man. A giant in stature with an even bigger heart. I worked with Huey at Beaumont Well Works many years ago and never saw him without a smile on his face. My sincere condolences to his extended family during this time of grief. He is surely in a better place today.
