Irene Lynette Leatherwood Fregia

May 30, 1937 - August 15, 2017

Irene Lynette Leatherwood Fregia passed away in the early morning hours of August 15, 2017, at The Harbor House Hospice of Beaumont. Ms. Fregia, a longtime resident of Winnie, was born to Irene and Jim Leatherwood of Lumberton, on May 30, 1937, where she grew up.

Throughout her life, she loved salt water fishing and camping along the coast with friends and relatives. In the mid-1980’s, she opened a restaurant in Winnie, “Lynette’s Coffee Cup”, where she served up wonderful Cajun dishes and hot coffee every day to many satisfied customers. She loved to cook and the loved to share her fare with everyone even after the restaurant closed and often had relatives over the holiday meals.

She is survived by her husband, Wesley Fregia; sisters, Celia Smith of Lumberton and Carol Glanert of EuClaire, Wisconsin; nephew, James A. Vaughan of Corpus Christi; and nieces, Rita Wilson and her husband, Terry, of Tarkington and Betty Faye Weaver of Sour Lake. She will also be missed by her four stepchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and many friends who all loved her dearly.

Mrs. Fregia is preceded in death by her brothers, James, George, Roy, William, and John Leatherwood; and sisters, Eunice Smith and Madge Nichols.

A gathering of Mrs. Fregia’s family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m. with her funeral service to follow at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 19, 2017, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Interment will follow at Leatherwood Cemetery, Lumberton.

Lynette was my Mom, maybe not biological but she accept me as her own and we had that mother and daughter relationship. I will miss her dearly! Love you Lynette!
