Janice Lenora "Grandy" Copeland

Janice Lenora “Pootsue” “Grandy” Copeland, 78, of Hamshire, passed away Saturday, March 6, 2021, at Calder Woods, Beaumont. She was born on May 10, 1942, to Rosa Lee Burkhead and Maynard “Buck” Shellhammer, in Beaumont. Janice was a great cook and she also loved to play pinochle with her cousins who were like her sisters. She will be remembered as a loving mother to her son and grandmother to her grandchildren.

Janice is survived by her son, Jesse Alton “Bubba” Copeland II and his wife, Stephanie, of Hamshire; brother, Maynard Shellhammer, of Indiana; grandchildren, Sarah Alexis Copeland, of Huntsville; Emma Alyse Copeland and Kirsten Kay Viator, both of Hamshire; and Easton Lucas Viator, of Milford; and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers.

A gathering of Ms. Copeland’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with her funeral service to follow at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 9, 2021, at First Baptist Church, 25304 Highway 124, Hamshire. Her interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Collier Park; and a very special thanks to Calder Woods, nurse “Tiny” and staff in the Memory Care Unit and staff of Rehab Unit. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Lori Shellhammer, Gail Miller, Ellen Ray Fischer, Ruby Ramsey, Lois LeBlanc, Jean Caruthers, and her fantastic grandchildren for all of the help with mom during her trying times.
