Jeanette Calhoun

June 29, 1935 - June 30, 2021

Frances “Jeanette” Calhoun, 86, of Beaumont made a little trip up to Heaven on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 to join her Savior.

She was born on June 29, 1935, in Orange, Texas to Lillie Bell Pence and Simon Bourgeois, Sr. She married the love of her life, Charlie Calhoun, at the age of 17. They celebrated 68 years of marital bliss on February 4, 2021.

After the birth of her three beautiful children, Jeanette attended Lamar University, earning her Associates Degree as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She worked for forty-two years as an OB nurse and as a surgical nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She retired at 73 years of age. Jeanette was considered the “trainer” and “matriarch” of the surgery unit.

Jeanette’s greatest joy was loving her family. She was always ready to attend Grandparents Day, school programs, birthday parties, graduations, soccer games, ballet recitals, baseball games, football games, marching band events, drill team events, music gigs and anything else her precious babies did!

As one of the last living Aunts, Jeanette took the role of Mom, Grandma and hugger to all her numerous nieces and nephews who found themselves without a Mom, Dad, Mawmaw or Pawpaw. She loved all who touched her fiercely and never shied away from speaking her mind.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Ray Calhoun, Sr.; children, Charles Ray Calhoun, Jr. and his wife Georgetta “Etta”; Patricia “Trish” Bohm and her husband, Kevin; Robyn Calhoun Stevens and her husband, Paul; grandchildren, Jeremy Calhoun and his wife, Libby; Katy Robertson and her husband, Josh; Michael O’Pry and his wife, Hillary; Heather Yentzen and her husband, Jake; Jake Stevens and Matt Stevens; great-grandchildren, Colbie Calhoun, J.P. Robertson, Jameson Robertson, Wren O’Pry, Willa O’Pry; Bailey Yentzen, Bryson Yentzen, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jeanette is preceded in death by her mom, Lillie Bell Mayo; and dad, Johnny Mayo. Her siblings Dewilda Bennett, Herman Bourgeois, Simon “Booty” Bourgeois, Jr., Vivian Carr and Nora Lee Sanders.

There are many angels among us, and Jeanette was touched by two special angels in her final days. Linda and Kellie McGraw of the YaYa House loved her like she was their own. We are forever grateful to this mother and daughter team who loved our Mama as much as we did!
