Jesus "Jesse" Flores

Jesus “Jesse” Flores, 88, of Nederland, passed away Tuesday June 2nd, 2020, at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas, Port Arthur. He was born in Port Arthur, Texas on October 10, 1931 to Baltazar and Juanita Flores. He went into the workforce around the age of fifteen and later got his GED. He married the love of his life, Rachel Granado, of Beaumont, in 1952; they were married for sixty-eight years.

He was in the military from 1953-1954, ranked as a Private First Class. While serving, he competed in the United States Army swimming team. In 1954 he won a featherweight championship while boxing. His hobbies were coaching his sons in sports; woodcarving; making furniture; fishing; camping; dancing; and spending time with his family. After twenty-seven years of service he retired from Sinclair Koppers/Quantum in 1994.

Survivors include his wife, Rachel Flores; son, Jesse Flores, Jr.; granddaughter, Celina Flores Ellis and her husband, Matt; great-grandchildren, Alexia and Luke Ellis; granddaughter, Jessica Flores; sisters, Alice Pedraza, Emma Montalvo and Abel Montalvo, Sr; brother, Richard Flores and his wife, Sandra; and a host of family, friends, and loved ones.  

He is preceded in death by his parents, Baltazar and Juanita Flores, three brothers; four sisters; son, Joe Flores; daughter-in-law, Celeste “Cissy” Flores; grandsons, Jesse Flores III and Anthony Flores; and several nieces and nephews.

A gathering of Mr. Flores’ family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with a Rosary recited at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 5, 2020, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m., at Broussard’s, Nederland, with his interment to follow at Memory Gardens, Nederland. Please observe social distancing guidelines.
