Jesus Mendieta

December 27, 2004 - February 23, 2019

Jesus “Chuy” Mendieta, 14, of Winnie, died Saturday, February 23, 2019, in an unexpected accident with his cousin and best friend, Fernando Vela, by his side. He was born to Marina and Oscar Mendieta, on December 27, 2004, in Galveston.

Jesus had been a resident of Winnie since 2009, formerly living in Port Bolivar. He was an 8th grade student at East Chambers Junior High in Winnie. He ran track and played football. Jesus was loved by his friends, teammates, and coaches. He was Catholic by faith, attending San Louis Catholic Church.

Survivors include his parents; two sisters, Sonia and Karla Mendieta; grandparents, Graciela Munoz, Ignacio Vela, Esteban Tovar Mendieta, and Juana Mendieta; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A gathering of Jesus’ family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:30 p.m., Friday, March 1, 2019, at St. Louis Catholic Church, 315 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 2, 2019, at St. Louis Catholic Church, Winnie, under the direction of Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. His interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.

Jesus will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
