Joan Marie Swango

Joan Marie Swango, 80, of Nederland, Texas, died Friday, June 19, 2020. She was born on May 13, 1940, in Rock Island, Illinois, to Everett F. and Mary J. (Behrens) Lyons. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved spending time with family, especially her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joan grew up in Indiana before moving to Ohio, Kentucky and Texas after marriage. Even with family spread across several states, she always found ways to make each individual feel loved and special.

Survivors include her husband, Steve Swango, of Nederland, Texas; daughter, Joda Patterson and her husband, Dave, of Reading, Ohio; sons, Jay Swango, of Alvin, Texas and Steven Swango II and his wife, Jody, of Nederland, Texas; seven grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her four siblings.

A family committal was held at Broussard’s Crematorium under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 3, 2020, at St. Mary’s Parish, 203 4th Street, Aurora, Indiana, with her inurnment to follow at River View Cemetery, 3635 East Laughery Creek Road, Aurora, Indiana.
