Joe Winston Young

March 12, 1930 - May 11, 2021

Joe Winston Young passed away peacefully at home in Beaumont, on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at the age of 91. He was born in Port Arthur, Texas, to Sherman Young, Sr. and Gladys Juanita Carpenter Young, on March 12, 1930. Joe spent his childhood in Port Acers. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1949.

In February of 1950 Joe enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country until he was honorably discharged on April 18, 1955. Upon leaving the military, Joe returned to Port Arthur and continued college. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Lamar University in Beaumont. After earning his degree, Joe began working as an insurance adjuster for Travelers Insurance. This was the beginning of a lifetime career. Joe worked as an adjuster for several insurance companies in Port Arthur, Houston, and Beaumont until his retirement.

Joe loved to read and enjoyed visiting the bookstore to see the latest reading materials. He also loved sports, especially football. His love of football began in high school where he played on the team. Throughout his life he kept up with his favorite college and professional teams.

Joe met everyone with a smile and a friendly handshake. His warm and caring personality endeared him to all those in his circle of friends and family.

Survivors include one brother, Dr. John F. Young; several nieces and nephews; and his loving and faithful companion of forty-seven years, Peggie Hogan Moseley.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Peggie Marie Hebert; sister, Ruth Young Justice; brothers, Pierce Young, Sherman Young, Jr., Cary Young, and Chester C. Young, Sr.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 14, 2021, at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.

I absolutely adored Uncle Joe and am sorry Covid19 refused to let me go to his service. I love you Uncle Joe and will miss you. Thanks for the person responsible for the pictures. They will be treasured.
