John Levy Rabalais

August 3, 1943 - July 17, 2021

John Levy Rabalais, 77, of Nederland, died Saturday, July 17, 2021, at Christus Southeast Texas-St. Elizabeth, Beaumont. He was born August 3, 1943, to Euna Marie Hebert Rabalais and Francis Hunter Rabalais, in Algiers, Louisiana.

Johnny had a long-decorated career serving over 30 years in the military. Throughout that time, he succeeded in being a faithful husband, a compassionate dad, and a fun-loving grandfather. Deeply dedicated to his faith, Johnny believed in being in service of others. He was first to help without the need to ask. In that spirit, he willingly opened his home to assist refugees from Vietnam and provided a new life to a grateful extended family. Johnny’s passions included fishing with his family and reading books – lots and lots of books. He dedicated his life to his faith, family, and country.

John is survived by his children, Bobby Rabalais and wife, Tracey, of Houston; John E. Rabalais and wife, Maria, of Nederland; Jason Rabalais and wife, Jennifer, of The Woodlands; and Cristina Moore and husband, Jason, of Nederland; grandchildren, Ashley Roa and husband, Luis; Dylan Rabalais and wife, Ariel; Sarah Rabalais; and Liliana Rabalais; great-grandchildren, Mila Roa; Nicolas Roa; and one on the way; sisters, Cecelia Chavers; and Peggy Fontenot.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carol Rabalais; brothers, James Rabalais; and Francis Rabalais.

A gathering of Mr. Rabalais family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 22, 2021, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 23, 2021, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 211 Hardy Avenue, Nederland, with his interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.

Johnny became a valued friend while attending my Grief Ministry class the last 2 years. He always had an encouraging word for everyone even while dealing with his own grief. He brought books and poems to share to help others. I will miss him. Love and prayers to all his family. Patsy Edmonds

It is with great sadness that we learned of John's passing.. He is with the love of his life. John's family and friends now have a great void in their lives.. John was a great help to us in many ways, always there, always ready to respond for any need, especially when Ryan had Guillain~Barre Syndrome in 2003. Our deepest sympathy to John Edward, Christina, Bobby, Jason and their families.. and to Cecelia and Peggy.. We will miss John very much. Love and prayers, Ryan and Carolyn Rabalais and family

Mr. John was a fun friend to Marion & Ed Hughes Library in Nederland and its employees through the years. Up until May 2018 I helped your Dad gather books to donate to people in Southern Louisiana. Westerns were always his prime books to take to his Louisiana friends.. Mr. John was one of our favorite visitors... Teasing and laughing with ease. We also prayed with him when his beloved wife was so very sick. Thank You for sharing your Dad and Grandfather with the "Library Ladies & Noah".
