There are not enough words to express how much this man meant to me. He lifted me up when I was down. He took care of my children and loved them as dearly as I did. Many a Christmas Eve I was at his home getting treatment for a child who suffered from migraines. He welcomed us with hugs. My prayers go out to his children and all those who will miss him as much as I do. God has a new angel to watch over all of us.

Dr. Derrick was an amazing pediatrician and human being. He blessed multiple generations of my family with his kind and caring brand of medicine. I'd like to think he played a big part in me choosing to become a nurse. My condolences go out to his family at this time.

What a fabulous man! I’m not sure I would’ve made it through so many times in my life without Dr Derrick. He took exceptional care of my children and I will always be indebted to him. His kind words and gentle nature is rarely experienced these day. My favorite memories were the early morning visits after my babies were born. Always checking on Mom and Dad after seeing the new baby. God rest your soul Dr Derrick you were truly one of a kind.

Derrick Family, I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Derrick’s passing. What a special person he is. I am so grateful for the many years your father took care of me and my siblings. I continued going to him until I was in college! He was always so glad to see me and took time to visit. His generosity and kindness was felt by my entire family. Knowing that my mother had to feed triplet babies, baby formula was always in big demand. When drug reps would show up at Dr. Derrick’s office with cases of formula; he would call my mother to pick them it. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I will miss Dr. Derrick but know he is now in the kingdom of God experiencing everlasting life full of peace and joy. God Bless, Jim

Laura Scott

Taking my children to see Dr. Derrick was like a visit to see Grandpa. He loved my kids and they loved him. We were all sad when they got too old to visit as patients! But even after he retired, when we would see him out in public, he would still remember us. They don’t make doctors like him anymore. He was truly a legend and he will be remembered forever. Prayers for his family.

The Mouton family

I am so sorry for your family’s loss.. He was my pediatrician as well as my daughters. He even took care of my husband when he would get sick. I would have no other.. He was always so kind and gentle.. Such a great man. I will truly miss him as I know so many will also. My prayers are with you.

Tracey Walker

Motherhood became a lot less intimidating with Dr Derrick on the journey. I will always remember his compassionate care when they were sick, his celebration of their wellness and milestones, and the banter and respect for their nurse/mom. It was a privilege knowing you and entrusting you with my daughter’s lives.

Virginia Rice Paul

Dr. Derrick was the sweetest most caring man and it showed in the way he treated my baby brothers and all the babies that followed through the years.. May God keep his family in His loving arms. My prayers and thoughts are with his family.

David & Debra Deslatte

Derrick Family, thank you for sacrificially sharing this wonderful man with us. He cared for our girls from just after birth and into their teen years. What a blessing to have someone to walk us new parents through the ups and downs with such love, compassion and good old common sense. His love for God and people was a constant comfort to us and so many for so many years. He set a standard no doctors can come close to matching. We thank God for the blessing of knowing him and our prayers are for you during this time.

Sherry Stinnett

Dr. Derrick was our pediatrician when I was young. I am one of 7 children born to my parents (5 living now - two died as infants.). When I was 9 (I’m 64 now) I came down with an extremely high fever and a strange illness. Within a couple of days I couldn’t stand. My head was in excruciating pain. Dr. Derrick met my mom and dad at the hospital on a Sunday morning. Within 24 hours he had diagnosed me with meningococcal meningitis. I went into a coma and it was touch and go for a while. I had over 100 antibiotic injections. Dr. Derrick never gave up even though he told my parents I could die or have possible brain damage. My mom and dad and our entire church prayed for days. After 72 hours the fever broke and I began the long process of recovery. I cannot thank God enough for sending Dr. Derrick as my guardian Angel. He was the best! I will never forget!

Shanon Welch

Dr. Derrick was my beloved pediatrician until I turned 21 and he gently told me I had to find a “grown up doctor”. Years later, he cared for my children as their doctor. No other doctor II know of handed out his personal home phone number for emergencies, or wrote prescriptions for me if I was as sick as my kids. He was a gentle, loving soul and we were better for knowing and being loved by him, because he loved all of his “kids” and we knew it.

Don Webb

Wonderful doctor who was always committed to his patients .condolences to the family.

Kristin Torrez

Dr. Derrick was a one of a kind doctor. He was my doctor for 19 years. He told me I could stay until I was 30. Dr. Derrick touched so many lives. I saw him out and about a few years ago and he still remembered me. Thank you for everything Dr. Derrick.

Kathy Meadows

Dr Derrick was a very good man and an excellent doctor. When I lived in Silsbee many years ago, I had the honor of him being our pediatrician to our last 2 daughters. They are now 32 and 26. When my youngest was 1 1/2 months old, she got very sick. I took her to Dr. Derrick and he put her in the hospital immediately. We thought she had spinal meningitis and had to spend a week in the hospital. She didn’t have that but did have to have surgery on her ureter and urethra a couple of months later. It never formed all the way before she was born and that was what made her so sick. I thank God for having Dr. Derrick and his keen knowledge of finding out what was wrong with her. Had he not, she would have lost a kidney. He was a wonderful man and it truly breaks my heart to know he’s gone. He left an everlasting legacy and made a huge impact on the lives of many. He will be missed by this family for sur.e.

Lisa Cowart

Heaven just gained the most amazing, caring, and sweet man. He was the most patient pediatrician of this first time mother of a very colicky baby girl. He never acted like my phone calls were a bother. He even called in medicine for my daughter when I was in another state visiting relatives. He had to endure many fewer phone calls when I had my son 5 years later. He was also the pediatrician of their father. I cannot imagine how many thousands of lives he was a part of during his career. I know Nancy was at the gates to greet him. Thank you for loving my babies Dr. Derrick. You are forever in our hearts.

Joe Smith

He was a pediatrician and one of the greatest doctors gentlest men I’ve ever known rest in peace Dr. Derrick

He also was our neighbor for many years and God bless him for the many times he treated all four of us at home on weekends. Rest easy now Dr. Joe you lived a life well served.

Lorraine Davenport

Such a fine, caring, compassionate man. I remember our first office visit with our newborn son 33 years ago. I was a new mother with concerns. He gave me his home phone number. Thankfully it was rarely used, but it meant the world to me. Thank you, Derrick family, for sharing such a fine man with patients who appreciated and loved him.

Mark Hartman

My deepest condolences to the extended Derrick and Dansereau families during this time of loss. May your days be filled with happy memories of Joseph as you celebrate his life and the blessing he was to your family. Sincerely, Mark Hartman

Sad to hear of his passing Dr Derrick was mine and two brothers Dr and also my two sons. When my wife would bring one of them for a check up are whatever he asked how were and if we needed anything he’d give us a prescription thank you for taking care of my family. I will never forget hearing him tell my wife’s OBGYN when her delivery of my first son rapidly changed to an emergency C section she’s your patient and he’s mine get him out!! Truly a great man thanks again my prayers are with his family and friends during this time.

Kristin Cooksey

Dr. Derrick was my doctor for the first 18 years of my life. I don’t think any doctor will ever compare to him. If I hadn’t moved away he would definitely have been my kids’ doctor too.

Amy Briggs

Dr. Derrick was one of a kind. His kind and gentle spirit will be remembered forever. I started out with another pediatrician when my kids were born thinking Dr. Derrick would be retiring soon,...that was a mistake! He continued practicing long after my kids were in college! He always ended every visit with “I love you.” We ALL love you too...FOREVER!

Linda Caillavet

So sad to hear of the passing of Dr. Derrick., our children’s’ pediatrician since 1977 . He was a sweet, gentle man and a wonderful doctor. He lived a very long life and was well-loved. RIP Dr. Derrick

Enoch Morrison

I cannot think of a kinder soul than Dr. Derrick. He was the finest pediatrician I have ever known. He was deeply loved by my entire family and will be missed by all of us.

Chris Mabry

I wish I could attend the funeral but I live in Colorado. I must say he will be truly missed. He was both my pediatrician in the 70's and also my daughter's. He also helped me with a semi-emergency as an adult. He was so caring and I have the fondest memories when I did have to go to his office, except for those dang finger prick blood samples. And the best part of my visits with Dr. Derrick was how enthusiastic he was as he presented the lollipop jar letting us pick one. Selson Blue was a cure all.

Katherine Cascio Cleland

I'm truly saddened to hear this. Dr. Derrick was a wonderful, kind and caring Pediatrician. He was just a great human being and will be missed by all who had the honor of knowing him. RIP

Tina Siau

Dr. Derrick was my doctor from birth until about 21 years old (I'm 51 now). Then he was my son's doctor. We traveled for my husband's job and he gave us his home number so we could call him at anytime and we did! He helped us through many colds and such while we were in many other states! I dearly loved that man and miss him! He even treated me if I caught whatever my son passed on to me. My memories of him will always bring a smile to my face. He was a true hero and just a wonderful human being! I love you Dr. Derrick!

Lisa Sudela

Just yesterday, I told my child (who is having trouble with their "adult" doctor) that we need to go back to using Dr. Derrick. My deepest condolences to the Derrick family. We loved him so much.

Pam Meaux Nance

So sorry to hear about our sweetDr. Derrick. He has been a blessing to our family! My Dad. was a good friend with Dr. Derrick. My love and prayers go out to him and all his precious family! Till we meet again. ❤️❤️

Anna and Paul Scheurich

I write this with tears in my eyes as I read through the many amazing stories of one of the most amazing men I have ever come across. Dr. Derrick took care of two generations of our family with loving devotion. A kinder, more companionate person could not be found and his medical talents were unlimited.. When one of our kids was away at school and was not feeling well for a week and repeated trips to a doctor there were unsuccessful, a call to Dr. Derrick was responded with "its mono and come in this afternoon." And he was right!!!! Thanks to the entire Derrick family for sharing this treasure all of these years. He is the GOAT!!!

RAY BELL

SENDING PRAYERS AND LOVE TO THE FAMILY. HE TOUCHED SO MANY LIVES. A GREAT MAN.......

Vicki Walton

His famous words to me (which I repeat to this day), “Mom, are you rocking this baby?” He was a kind soul and always reassuring that being a mother was a honored gift. I was 18 and he always encouraged me. He took care of all 3 of our children. May God comfort his family and loved ones.

Pam Edwards

We all so loved Dr Derrick. He literally took care of all of us. Best person there ever was. Everyone will remember Mrs Pat. That was our mom. She loved working for Dr Derrick. She loved him. I know they are in heaven now chatting about all of us. We so loved him and appreciated everything he did for all of us , not just our babies. Never will be another like him. Great man and Doctor. He will be so missed !

Debra Norman

There will never be another Dr .Derrick. THE most kind and loving doctor. I remember when my son was a baby, he would kiss his feet then turn around and kiss me on the head and say "He's gonna be fine, Momma"

Gilbert Adams

Dr. Derrick was such a kind, caring, gentle and good man. He was my pediatrician and also my children's doctor. So reassuring with his calm demeanor. He will be missed.

Ray and Angela Baker

Michael and Vande: We are sad that we didn't have the pleasure of knowing your father as a doctor. But we have fond memories of him on Sunday morning with you two at church. He was always so pleasant and kind. We know that heaven just received a very special angel! Prayers of comfort for you and your family. Love you both, Ray and Angela Baker

Barbara Burrow

Fifty one years ago I gave birth to a baby girl who was born at noon. I had a saddle block which never took yet the staff of the hospital made me lie flat for hours and would not let me see or hold my baby. About 8:30 p.m. that night Dr. Derrick came in my room looking like a Mississippi riverboat gambler in his 3 pc. suit to tell me what a beautiful, healthy baby girl I had and found me crying because they wouldn't let me see or hold her. He turned right around, went down to the nursery, got my Christy and brought her to me, placed her in my arms with instructions to keep her as long as I wished & call the nursery when I tired. From then on, there was nothing he could do wrong in my eyes and heart & he loved and cared for all three of my children & guided this Mama thru many things ; then when our twin grandsons were born he even gave their Mama his home number. I teased him that "what's the deal? I never got your home number." He just grinned and said, "Second generation ." I cannot find the words to express how much we all loved & respected Dr. Derrick. I feel like we've lost part of our family today. Our prayers are with his children, grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. What a legacy he has left you all.

Russell Bistline

In 1958 at the age of 2 I was hospitalized with a severe case of staph pneumonia. My prognosis was bleak until 2 young doctors, Derrick and Bridges, took over my care and got me on the road to recovery. I was released after a month in the hospital and Dr. Derrick made house calls to see how I was doing. All 5 Bistline kids became patients of Dr. Derrick. Yes, we still remember the saf-t-pops in the glass jar! There has been no one in my life whom I have admired more than Dr. Derrick.

Tan Williams

Dr. Derrick was one of a kind. When you came to him stressed out about a sick baby, he gave that gentle smile and let you know right quick that everything would be okay. Seriously, how many doctors insisted on giving shots to the kids himself, rather than having one of his staff do It? Prayers to the family and thanks for sharing him with us all those years.

Regina Montes

Dr. Derrick was one of the purest, sweetest, most gentle souls that ever lived. You couldn't ask for a better doctor or person. I am lucky to have had him as part of my life and my kid's lives. Rest in peace sweet Dr. Derrick. We love you.

Daina Verrett

Dr. Derrick was a wonderful person and pediatrician. He was so kind. I will never forget how he took care of my sons when they were sick and also reassured me at the same time. Rest in peace kind man❤

Doug and Dianna Davis, Jr

Our deepest condolences to the Derrick family. He was my husband and his siblings doctor and then treated our 2 kids up until he retired.. He always took great care of our kids and even us. Would always ask if we needed any medicine. He would always kiss my kids on there forehead and then kiss momma's head and said "they will be alright momma" and then got out the sucker jar for all, including mom. I had the pleasure of seeing him in Novorosky's about a month ago and went to say hello. I asked if he remembered me and he said "yes I do". Then he said, "come by and see me sometime". I wish I would have. You will be greatly missed.. God has the best doctor in heaven by his side to help him! Love you Dr Derrick.

Betty Richey

Dr Derrick’s family I am very sorry for your loss. I remember many times when he talked about his children and grandchildren during doctor visits. He definitely loved his family. I think his patients were his extended family. He took care of the children and their parents like they were his children. He took care of my 4 children. He was always so nice to them and me. He always gave us refills when one of them was sick so we would have enough if the others got sick. He gave me a vaccination once. a long with my kids. He gave me his home phone number just in case I ever needed it. I never used it but no other doctor has ever given me theirs. My kids all have fond memories of him. They loved those suckers. The last time my youngest son who was in college went to Dr Derrick’s he came out to give me a hug. When we started going to Dr Derrick he was 57 and I was worried he might retired soon. Well that didn’t happen. for another 30 years. He was always so calm and reassuring to the parents. I enjoyed meeting his relatives that worked at his office. Thank you Dr Derrick! Thank you Dr Derrick’s family!

Diane Alfaro

What a special man. He was not just a doctor to my boy's but a close friend. I do not know what I would have done without him. Our hearts are broken to here this. May the Lord be with the Derrick family and our pray's are with you.

Leslie Schroder

Oh so sad to hear this. My first job in Beaumont was at Dr. Derrick’s office. He wanted me to set up his lab. What a gentle, loving person. We would take patients as late as it took if there was someone that had a sick child. He knew how important parents peace of mind was. He attended all three of my C-Sections and I would let them put me to sleep until he arrived to hold my hand. Love you Dr. Derrick.

Chuck and Ethel Prater

To the Derrick Family, Joe and Nancy were Christian examples to all who knew them. Their love and devotion for each other and their family was evident. He was our daughter’s pediatrician, always assured nervous Moms It will be okay. The lollipop jar was always full, the kiddos knew they did not Leave his office without one. May God comfort his family knowing he is at rest.

Trent and Darlene Thomas

God broke the mold when he made Dr.Derrick. I can honestly say he helped me raise my babies. Dr. Derrick was literally a phone call away. As precious as his time at home was with his family, he cared for his patients just like they were his on kids. My most fond memory of him was a weekend phone call. I started with how sorry I was for bothering him and he replied, “now baby I’m only in between two pots of beans, your never bothering me. Now what can I do to help you?” He will never know just how much he meant to me. Dr Derrick was a great Dr..! He was not only just my 4 kids Dr. but also my two grand kids and get this, also my husbands Pediatrician. Dr Derrick was a sharp as a tack and never missed a beat. He had the answer to everything. I loved hearing his best methods for raising boys!! He gave me great advice.! I will forever be grateful for his kindness and genuine love for my family. I know Mrs Derrick was waiting for him at those Pearly gates❤️

Christy Ard

Dr. Derrick took care of both of my girls. Anytime either one of them were sick, and had decided to share it with me, he would always take care of me as well. He was a true gem and they definitely broke the mold when he was made. He truly loved all of his patients and he will be dearly missed. My condolences and heart felt prayers go out to his family.

James Joines

The most amazing doctor I've ever used. Such a sweet man that truly cared. Would treat the whole family. So lucky to have had him as a doctor for my oldest son. Prayers for the family, it must be hard losing such an amazing man.

Laurie Swindells

Dr. Derrick was truly one of a kind. When my mom moved to Beaumont he was her pediatrician for a few years, then mine and my siblings, and later my two children’s. I remember the day he told me he was not going to practice medicine anymore and I was heartbroken. I told him he had promised to wait until my youngest was 18. We laughed and cried together. My children adored him and he always put his patients’s needs above anything else. They do not make doctors like him anymore. He was truly one of a kind. My deepest condolences are with his family. I know they sacrificed a great deal so that their father could care for so many other families through the years and to you all we are grateful for all that he did. Again, thank you for sharing him with us all through the years.

Katie (Chance) Crews

Dr. Derrick was a kind, gentle spirit. He was my pediatrician 20+ years ago and I can still remember the smell of his cologne and office. I went to him until I absolutely could not anymore. I was definitely an adult but denied it as long as I could! I’m sure I wasn’t the first to try and convince him to see adult patients too! I’ll never forget being in Lifeway probably about 10 years ago and smelling something that was triggering a feeling of childhood. I turned the corner and there he was. He gave me the biggest hug and wanted to know all about me and my family! I know without a doubt he’s rejoicing in Heaven! My thoughts and prayers are with all of his family and close friends! There’s no way you will ever know how many people’s lives he made an impact on! The song “Thank you for going to the Lord” by Ray Bolts comes to mind when I think about Dr. Derrick. Love and prayers be with you all!

Amber Westman

Dr Derrick meant so much to my family and so many families. He was multi-generational, being the trusted pediatrician for generation after generation: mine, my girls, and so many more. Never did I see him without an “I love you” and “call me if you need me.” He was gentle, loving, and had a special gift for handling each person walking into his office. You are truly missed, Dr. D. We love you.

Kelly Dinkle

Dr Derrick was my pediatrician growing up in the 80s and 90s. He was always so kind and made going to the doctor fun, always ending with a sucker !! My mom still says, “Dr . Derrick said this or that .... “ ! We all still go by Dr. Derrick’s ways and what he said to do for particular situations. We loved him so much and he will be greatly missed. Heaven gained the best of the best!

Mary & Charles Gonzalez

Simply the best! Our family loved Dr. Derrick and we extend our condolences to his family.

Cory LeBlanc

Rest In Peace sir and thank you for your years of service and dedication to making sure guys like me started off with the best of care....

This news just breaks my heart. Dr Derrick was one in a trillion!! He was my doctor from birth until I was 17/18. I remember when I was little I was really sick, he came out to our home in Bevil oaks to check on me, and brought ice cream. Another time I was sick and wasn’t getting better. Dr Derrick wouldn’t quit until he found out what was wrong. He finally found out what was wrong., I had cat scratch fever. I, and my parents and my siblings loved, loved, loved this man. Deepest condolences,, hugs and prayers to his Family. Your Dad was an awesome human and phenomenal doctor. RIH Dr Derrick ❤️

Oh, how I loved this dear man and all the wonderful people that worked at his office throughout the many years (decades)! Dr. Derrick had the most calming manor and treated every one of his little patients like they were his own. I treasure the years that I went to see him throughout my childhood, and I adored that my children were blessed to have him as their doctor, as well. Sending many prayers and blessings to his family. in their time of great loss.

Jennifer Bell

Dr Derrick is one of a kind! I remember taking our new baby to him for the first time and his tender care for him truly touched me. Then he turns to my husband and says so how are you do you need anything. He was still willing to treat and care for him as a former/current patient (he was 22). We like others tried to convince him he needs to see adults. We wish to send our condolences to his family and express our love and appreciation for such an amazing man. He was perfect in our eyes.

Robert Sim Greer

Elaine Madole

Dr. Derrick was loved by my family. In fact, my mother-in-law named her second born son (my husband), Derrick in honor of Dr. Derrick. After my children were born, I became acquainted with Dr. Derrick as he was their pediatrician. Dr. Derrick w
