Joseph Duhon

January 24, 1953 - October 20, 2018

Gary Duhon, 65, of Haughton, Louisiana, passed away the morning of Saturday, October 20, 2018.

The Lord blessed Constance Marie and Adolph Duhon, on January 24, 1953, as Gary was born in Brooklyn, New York.

After relocating to Winnie, Texas, he graduated from Hamshire-Fannett High School. Gary, his father, grandfather, and brothers were all consumed with a love of horses, horse racing, and horse training. As an adult, Gary followed in his forefathers’ boot-prints and he too began his lifetime career as a Horse Trainer which brought him to Haughton, Louisiana.

However, his gifts and talents were not limited to Thoroughbreds, Gary could raise any animal, if he smelled a profit: Pigeons, Pot-Bellied-Pigs, Chickens, Rabbits, Fightin’ Roosters, you name it. If he could breed it, he could raise it and sell it. “Thank God I’m A Country Boy!”

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Sandi Duhon, of Haughton, Louisiana; daughter, Lisa Marze and her husband, Kent Marze; son, Jason Duhon and his wife, Wendy; grandchildren, William, Breanna, and Brittany Smith; and Colton and Emily Duhon; siblings, Valerie Chesson and her husband, Wayne; Paul Duhon; Joe Duhon and his wife, Julie; many nieces and nephews; and all his many dear friends and loved ones within the horse racing industry.

Mr. Duhon is preceded in death by his parents.

A gathering of Mr. Duhon’s family and friends will begin at 4:00 p.m., immediately followed by a memorial service at 5:00 p.m., Friday, October 26, 2018, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie, Gary’s hometown. Pastor Jim Menke will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Backside Benevolence Funds, Chaplain Jimmy Sistrunk, through Louisiana Downs.
