Judy Ann Meekins

Judy Ann Meekins, 64, of Anahuac, died Tuesday, July 27, 2021. Judy Ann Meekins was born on September 21, 1956, to Wallace and Zola Mae (North) Artis in Liberty, Texas. Judy married her beloved husband, James Edward Meekins, on September 25, 1978. Judy was a dedicated wife and loving nurturing mother of four children: Angela Lynn Shields, Lydia Lynese Meekins Sander, Anthony O’Neal Shields and Jamie Michelle Meekins and six grandkids: Kristen Zola Sha’Rae Shields, LaQuinten D’Troy Coates, AhLeah Vionce Sostand, Jaeden Serede Meekins, Evynn Ann Watson, Ray Leah Lynese Haskin.

Judy grew up knowing the lord as her savior. She attended the Living Church of God.

Judy attended George Washington Carver Elementary School, and Anahuac High School. She later attended Lee College in Baytown, Texas. Judy was very creative, and her passions were cooking, gardening, crafting, and home decor. One of Judy’s most endearing qualities was her compassion for helping others, she absolutely loved cooking and was extremely good at it and never minded sharing this gift with anyone who smelled her delicious food and found themselves at her doorsteps.

Judy was an amazing home maker, but she also worked outside her home in the construction field as a safety attendant where she ensured everyone was safe.

Judy had a BIG personality and loved serving her community by helping feed those less fortunate. She also dearly loved her entire family and highly praised her doting husband, especially on how well he took care of her during the time of her illness, “…working his job and making sure her every need were met…”

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace Artis, Sr. and Zola Mae (North) Artis; father, and mother-in-law, Edward James Meekins and Leatrice Meekins; son, Anthony O’Neal Shields; nephews, Hubert Anthony Artis, Jr., and John Michael Artis.

Judy was the oldest out of 8 children: Wallace Artis, Jr. (Darlene), Ronnie Lee Artis (Marcie), Hubert Anthony Artis, Sr., John Peter Artis (Claudia), Brenda Sue Artis, Samson Michael Artis (Terri), and Creig Joshua Artis (Veronica); and 29 nieces and nephews and 40 great-nieces and nephews.

Judy will be deeply missed, but will remain in our hearts forever, “we love you!”

A gathering of Mrs. Meekins’ family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m., with her funeral service to follow at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. Her graveside service will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Godfrey Cemetery, Wallisville.
