Shawna: I’ve known Junia for more than 50 years. Our friendship started while in Grenada and our migration to the United States drew us closer; here I came to know her as a wonderful and caring friend whose love for her parents was unsurpassed. Yet, she had more love as your birth raised the bar of a mother’s love for a child to an almost unattainable level. As a friend I am deeply saddened by her passing but am comforted that she is without pain sleeping peacefully with her beloved parents and siblings. My friend Junia was a friend indeed because she was a friend even when you were in need. She always took the high road and rewarded betrayal and disappointments with selfless kindness that some might have ignorantly taken for stupidity: on the contrary – she was just kind. It was natural to love Junia because hers was the first Christmas card to arrive in October and she remembered birthdays with an early card followed up by a phone call on the actual day. Her culinary skills were exceptional and even on her visits to Grenada for her vacations she unselfishly took the time to make cheese cakes for my mother Marita Quarless and later on I inherited the favors when I moved back to Grenada. Let her warmth and love continue to keep you in the days ahead. You will continue to be in my prayers. My children and I send our Condolences to you and the rest of her family. Sweet Junia was a wonderful baby nurse for our daughter Chloe. I remember that she loved watching basketball and she made the best Mac and cheese! She was always laughing and happy, and a very proud mother, aunt, and grandmother. She also never forgot any of “her babies” birthdates, and called Chloe every year. My condolences to the family. Junia & I met when I brought her Holy Communion on a Friday morning. Every week after that I looked forward to seeing her. Our visits were short but oh we both liked to talk. The only person In the family I’ve met is Gabriel. After COVID became an issue we would visit by phone. She was a lovely lady but rest assured she will not be forgotten. Claudette and I worked together as nurses at Kings County hospital in Brooklyn. As a new nurse in the ER she embraced me and helped me along the way. I will remember her distinctive voice and infectious laughter. She had a positive outlook about her diagnosis and even when setbacks arise she had a strong desire to fight to live. Claudette you cried out and God heard you so no more pain. I know you're resting with the Heavenly angels. If I didn’t have to be in Trinidad to visit my brother (who passed 3 days ago, I wouldn’t have missed your funeral.. I cherished our friendship and we were like 2 peas in a pod because we were always together. You never forgot a birthday or an anniversary . I will cherished the memories Lammy.
