LeDelle Bernice Benoit

December 8, 1937 - January 10, 2021

LaDelle Benoit known affectionately as Ladle, Delle, Deli, Aunt Delle and Mom of China, Texas went to Heaven on January 10, 2021. She was born on December 8, 1937 at the Hotel Dieu Hospital in Beaumont, Texas. She was the first child of Arthur Castello and Eunice Gallet. Arthur was born in Atilo Cozula, Italy in 1906 and later immigrated to Port Arthur in 1920. Arthur became a US citizen in 1943. Eunice was born in Eunice, LA. Arthur and Eunice’s examples of hard work and pride in our nation had a great impact on LaDelle’s life.

LaDelle loved her “girls”. She was blessed with two daughters. She couldn’t have been more proud of whatever they did. She is survived by daughters Becky Ames (Rodney) and Beth Benoit (Pam Efferson). LaDelle is preceded in death by her brother Robert Arthur Castello and survived by brother Joseph Ovie Castello.

LaDelle was a 1956 graduate and devoted South Park High School Greenie. LaDelle made many lifelong friends when she was in the Melody Maids. She enjoyed traveling abroad to sing for our troops. She was an avid bowler and at one time held the highest bowling average for any female in Beaumont. When it came to living and laughing all roads led to the kitchen. LaDelle was a gifted cook and that skill allowed her to be the ultimate hostess. She loved to entertain. No one could refuse her fried pork chops, fried chicken always served with rice and cream gravy.

She had an incredible sense of style and impeccable taste. LaDelle was especially fond of mid-century modern architecture. Her favorite color was well known to be red. She loved her red silk sheets and it was the only color for her Cadillacs with vinyl or convertible tops. She became a master of the Desktop Scrabble Game competing with great success against other players around the world. She adored her television programs and was especially fond of anything starring Kevin Costner.

She taught her daughters to always choose right over wrong and always do the “right” thing. She was proud of their triumphs and guided them through their challenges. Her hugs were magnetic. She instilled in them to always practice the “golden rule” and to definitely be a “good sport” in all endeavors. The family traveled across the country showing quarter horses. The “girls” were successful however; if they weren’t on a particular day they knew to make sure and congratulate the winners…”and mean it”!

LaDelle was a lover of animals, especially rescues. She was the proud grandmother of four 4-legged granddogs, Frankie, Misty, Percy and Tank. She was a collector of vivid ceramic animals which adorned every room in her home.

LaDelle was loved by her many family and friends. She cherished her lifelong friendships that held an exclusive place in her heart. All service workers loved LaDelle because she knew the challenges of being in such a frontline position. She was an avid gift giver with wrapping that was so beautiful they didn’t want to open them. She always preferred giving rather than receiving.

LaDelle will be missed by all who knew her but is no longer suffering in pain. She left this life surrounded by love and support, a trademark she instilled in her daughters. They are grateful to her caregivers who eased the hardship of her discomfort.

A celebration of her life and to honor her vivacious spirit will be held in the spring when flowers are blooming and the rebirth of nature sings with the sweet sounds of the many animals that brought her happiness.

It has been one of my highest honors to have been allowed to be a part of LaDelle’s life. She was my friend for over 26 years & I loved her like my second Mom. So many wonderful memories of laughing, cooking, dancing & getting into just the right amount of mischief. I will miss her everyday. But I am so relieved that she is pain free & at peace.

I remember LaDelle from when I was a little girl living next door. I thought she was one of the most beautiful women I had ever seen in my young life. I had hoped to visit with her again after all this crazy Covid mess was over. Just goes to show that time is short. I will be thinking of her family during this time.

You could not ask for a better mother-in-law. LaDelle was always so kind, generous, caring and loving to me. Plus a great cook that shared her talent with “Becky”. Always up with a smile on her face. Called us on a regular basis just to check in and say hello. I personally will miss her greatly. Rodney
