Lettie "Jane" Miller Hebert

December 28, 1928 - May 6, 2021

Lettie “Jane” Miller Hebert, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend left to be with her husband Buddy and their Lord on May 6, 2021.

Jane was born December 28, 1928 to Emmett and Marie Miller in Harlington, Texas. At the age of 9, the family moved to the South Park area of Beaumont.

Jane graduated from South Park High School in 1946 where she was a member of the Greenie Cadets, the Greenie Gusher Newspaper and Spindletop yearbook committees, and an aide in the principal’s office. She was described as “the face of one who is always dependable, helpful and faithful in her activities”.

Jane met her husband Walter “Buddy” Hebert on a blind date and on October 22, 1948, they were married. They soon built their first home in South Park where they lived happily for the next 50 years.

Jane and Buddy both shared a love for sports which made their marriage special. In 1954 they were introduced to water skiing and were one of the first couples to take to the Neches River on skis. For 6 years they performed in ski shows throughout Texas and Louisiana. The next 10 years they participated in tournament skiing in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Oklahoma and filled their home with many trophies.

On October 12, 1956 their son Bud was born, bringing a whole new meaning to life for Buddy and Jane. They were active in everything Bud did and Jane loved being a den mother, holding various offices in Little League, working in PTA and booster clubs, and making decorations for all of the South Park sporting events. Jane loved their community – their neighbors, their schools and their church.

In 1991, Jane and Buddy became part of the South Park Neighborhood Association and Citizens on Patrol. She helped furnish the police sub-station and volunteered there often. They both enjoyed attending the Civilians Police Academy and dearly appreciated their men and women in blue. Jane served on many boards and received the “Luv Those Volunteers” Award as well as certificates of appreciation from the Police Activities League, the Beaumont Police Department, and Citizens on Patrol. Jane also received a certificate of Special Congressional Recognition and was recognized by the city of Beaumont for her community activities.

In 1998, Jane and Buddy moved to Bevil Oaks which they grew to love dearly. They soon became very active there and Jane served on the City Council for 2 years. She also served on several committees and received numerous awards including the Community Builder Award from the Masonic Lodge in 2013 and the Pioneering Women Award in 2017. Her “adopted daughter” Mayor Becky Ford became one of Jane’s closest friends.

Jane loved being part of her family’s life. She was passionate about the Oklahoma Sooners, watching sports, playing golf, fishing, and working in their garden and yard. She became an extremely happy “Granny” when her beloved granddaughter Samantha was born. She considered her life special and full of many blessings.

Jane is preceded in death by her parents, Emmett and Marie Miller and her husband, Buddy, of 63 ½ years. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Bud, his wife, Clare and granddaughter, Samantha; as well as, her sister, Billie Sue Eshliman; brothers, Warren and Charles Miller; sister-in-law, Kay Miller; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral service for Mrs. Hebert will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont, with her interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont. Mama Jane, you and Buddy will always be in our hearts. I knew the first time I met you that you would be a part of my family. Those if us left behind for now will miss you more than we can say, but we know you are in a much better heavenly place, and reunited with Buddy. I love you Mama Jane with all my heart.

Jane Hebert was a sincere and steadfast friend, a beautiful and intelligent lady, a leader and true pioneer, and a woman of distinction! Her accomplishments were many and her failures few. She was a faithful Christian and a true treasure, more precious than rubies or gold. Heaven must be rejoicing to welcome you home! My deepest sympathy to your family.

Jane was an amazing lady. I met her in 1995. She went out of her way to encourage me and tel me how much she appreciated the Beaumont PD. She and Buddy always had an open door for me., whether for bathroom breaks or supper. They supported the BPD! I had the opportunity to speak with Jane last week. I will cherish that visit all of my days! Til we meet again my friend! I hope there is skiing in heaven, I’d love to see the show! I was so blessed to know and love you!

I knew and loved Buddy and Jane as a kid. They were dear friends of my parents, JoAnn and Bob Hedington. I sure will miss "aunt" Jane. My prayers go out to Bud, his family and all the people who will miss her dearly.

I worked at Unum with Jane's son Bud and she never forgot my Birthday even after I retired. She and Buddy were so caring towards our staff and treated us like family. I will never forget her sweet smile and humanism she always displayed. Love you Jane! Love, Lolo

What an honor to have known Ms. Jane. Ms. Jane was such a kind and loving person always happy to see those who came in contact with her. Ms. Jane had a smile that would light up the room. I'll always cherish visiting with Ms. Jane at the neighborhood functions. You couldn't miss seeing Ms. Jane with her infamous camera strung around her neck snapping photos of whoever stood still. Thank you Ms. Jane for the memories.

Jane was the sweetest lady ever. I sat with her at our last class reunion. Everyone loved her. So many people were coming up to her and sitting with her talking about all the good South Park memories. She was a very special lady and will be missed. My condolences to Bud and to all his family.
