Lora Mae Nicholas

December 5, 1932 - July 31, 2021

Lora Mae Nicholas, 88, of Beaumont, died Saturday, July 31, 2021, surrounded by her family. She was born on December 5, 1932, to Vera Ann Herrin and William Burnett Wood, in Port Arthur. Lora was a professional in her work dealing with probate in Jefferson County for almost 30 years. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading, and was very active in her church. Lora was family oriented and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchild.

Survivors include her husband, Michael Nicholas; daughters, Kay Herrington and her husband, Tony, of Beaumont and Karen Reese and her husband, James Babb of Bridge City; grandchildren, Ryan Trahan and his wife, Skylar, of Bridge City and Jordon Reese and Kara Karnovskiy of Austin; great-grandchild, Nicholas Harper Trahan of Bridge City; and sister, Louise Hoisington and her husband, Duane, of Phoenix, Arizona.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Robert Wood and Melvin Wood.

With heightened health and safety practices due to the Coronavirus, precautionary measures are being taken. A graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Port Arthur, Texas, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont, with Reverend Nathan Cothen officiating. It will be limited to immediate family. The family will not be receiving visitors at this time due to the virus, cards would be appreciated.

Mike, I was so sorry to hear of Lora Mae’s passing! I truly loved her as she was my “Little Sister” in the Hussars & also she married you my longtime School mate & Dear Friend! I will keep you, the girls & all of family in my prayers as I too well remember what you are going through now! Murlin & I were married 70 years & 11 months when I lost him .
