Loretta Baker

February 2, 1931 - February 17, 2020

Loretta Yvonne Baker, 89, of Silsbee, died Monday, February 17, 2020. She was born on February 2, 1931, in Liberty, to Isia Vincent Bounds and Burett Frank Bounds.

Growing up, Yvonne was a resident of Port Arthur and worked as a switchboard operator for the telephone company. She later moved to Silsbee and was the coordinator for the Hardin County Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She also was a Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church, Silsbee. Her sweet smile and optimistic attitude will be missed by all.

Survivors include her children, Dwiatt Lyman Baker, III and his wife, Loretta, of Evadale; and Melvin Baker and his wife, Bootsie, of Lumberton; grandchildren, Dwiatt Baker, IV, Quentin Baker, and Keaton Baker; great-grandchild, Bronson Baker; and special friend, William Burrow of Silsbee. She is preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Dwiatt Lyman Baker, Jr.

A gathering of Mrs. Baker’s family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 21, 2020, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 22, 2020, at Broussard’s, with her interment to follow at Oak Bluff Cemetery, Port Neches.

I’m sorry for your loss. I will always cherish mine and ms, Yvonne friendship. I will truly miss her and our time together playing chess, talking, and doing word searches. I’ll miss showing her my new taekwondo forms and watching her smile at me through the window . I appreciate her being one of my biggest fans. Heaven gained an amazing lady this week.
