Lynda Grace Davis

August 13, 1951 - May 6, 2021

Lynda Grace Conway Davis, 69, of Kountze, died Thursday, May 6, 2021.  She was born on August 13, 1951, in Houston, to Leona Guillory Conway and Jim Conway.

Lynda grew up in Houston alongside her sister Betty.  Eventually her family moved to Thicket where Lynda attended West Hardin High and where she later met Jerry of Kountze, her husband of fifty-one years.  Together they had three children.

Lynda subbed at the Kountze High School while her kids attended as well as coached cheerleading for a few years.  She enjoyed being around the students and they loved her.

She began working for Hardin County Indigent Healthcare in 1987 and was promoted to Director of Indigent Healthcare in 2000 until her recent passing. Lynda had thought about retiring for the past few years but felt her work wasn’t done.  There were many people needing help, plus she loved the ladies in her office and friends/coworkers all around the courthouse.

Lynda was not only a loving mother, wife, Mimi, and daughter, but she was also an animal and nature lover.  She and Jerry enjoyed taking the kids camping on the weekends and would still go camping up until recently. She enjoyed traveling.  Family road trips were always fun as were the many trips to the Hill Country with her and Jerry’s friends.

Any place you wanted to go, Lynda was ready with a smile on her face.  She very much loved attending church on Sundays, if she wasn’t camping.  Her faith was strong and is what helped her get through very rough waters.  From her own battle with cancer, which she won, to the passing of her parents and loved ones who gained their wings before her.

Lynda enjoyed cooking and baking, especially the recipes she learned from her Cajun mother, Leona and her maw maw Mac.  A few times a year, she and Jerry would drive over to Louisiana to pick up ponce, boudin, sausage, and tasso.  Delicious!

Lynda enjoyed singing and learned to play the organ and the dulcimer.  She and Jerry used to meet up with friends to sing and play music.  Then grandkids came along, and everyone became too busy to meet up.  But they still stayed in touch through the years.

Lynda was a joyful and loving person with a positive outlook on life.  She was the rock and foundation of our family and will be missed by everyone who knew her.  May she rest in beautiful peace with everyone who went before her.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Davis; children, Joni Davis Parker and her husband, John, of Wildwood; Brigette Davis Radcliff and her husband, Chris, of Beaumont; and Adam Davis of Kountze; grandchildren, Anastasia Radcliff and Brandon Radcliff, both of Beaumont; and sibling, Betty Carol Nerren and her husband, Butch, of Rye.  She is preceded in death by her parents.

A gathering of Mrs. Davis’ family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.  Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 13, 2021, at First Baptist Church, 100 West Monroe Street, Kountze, with her interment to follow at Old Hardin Cemetery, Kountze.

Out of consideration for all that are attending the visitation and service for Lynda, the family has requested to please only attend if you are feeling well.

Please observe social distancing guidelines. By attending any public event you are acknowledging the risk of exposure to the Corona Virus. Please follow the guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control: cdc.gov

We met Lynda though music. Cindy and I would occasionally have “Jam” or music sessions at our home and other places. Lynda and Jerry would almost always join us. Lynda had a very good voice as well as being a good entertainer. She loved singing Patsy Cline songs and really excelled at it. She and Jerry would always stay late and help cleanup after one of our Music nights. Her voice and friendship will be missed terribly at the Reed household. Cindy’s long conversations on the phone with her, Lyndas descriptive messages, lol, she was a true and loyal friend as is Jerry. Here’s to the Hill Country Trips, our local excursions, Cypress Lakes and last but not least the love we all felt . See you down the road Lynda,

Jerry and Lynda would always try to come up to Northwest Arkansas to see us. Usually in the early fall to see the colors of the leaves. It was always a thrill to get to see them. When we would hear they were coming we would get excited. We new they loved us enough to make such a long trip. We would sit and talk for hours catching up on what we remembered. Lynda was always the center of our story telling. She was so funny. She had been me and my wife Barbara's sister for over fifty years. So you would think we were blood relatives. Lynda will be missed dearly. As I sit and type this I have a tear in my eye just thinking of all the great times we had. She will be missed. Please pray for Jerry and his children that the Lord will comfort them. May God bless you all.
