Madelon Graham

Madelon Douglas Graham, 73, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont. She was born on July 8, 1946, in Beaumont, to Ruby Compton Reed and Charles Fletcher Graham. 

Madelon was an accomplished flutist, winning competitions with her mother accompanying on the violin. She attended St. Margaret’s High School in Tappahannock, Virginia graduating with honors. Madelon earned a Bachelor of Arts, with distinction in Political Science and English, as well as a Master of Arts in Teaching from Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She also attended Master graduate studies in Political Science at the University of Houston. 

Madelon worked as the Assistant Director and Curator at Cornwell Galleries in Houston, Texas. She was a former principal at St. Paul’s Church School in Woodville, Texas. Madelon enjoyed being a freelance writer for The Tyler County Booster and The Newton County News. She was a self-starter which lead to the formation of Journal Publications where she produced and published The Cracker Barrel, a type of tabloid newspaper. Her style of writing was loved by all who read The Cracker Barrel. Her photography captured the essence of character of the person she was photographing. After publication, the paper was distributed to Tyler and Jasper counties. 

Madelon was an active member of The Junior League, Beaumont Symphony, and the Historical Society. She had a love for reading and academic studies and was awarded excellence in all her academic pursuits. Madelon enjoyed music, especially playing the flute and listening to classical music.

Survivors include her sister, Jeanne Miller and her husband, Dolph, of Tyler; brother, Fletcher Graham and his wife, Jerri, of Arkansas; nephew, Rick Warren; and niece, Ashley Warren, both of Tyler.

A gathering of Ms. Graham’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 13, 2020, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. A pre-reception will begin at 10:00 a.m., with her funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 14, 2020, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 680 Calder Avenue, Beaumont. Interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont.
