Marie Antoinette Lester

August 29, 1928 - October 2, 2020

Marie Antoinette Lester, 92, of Nederland, died Friday, October 2, 2020, at Gulf Health Care Center, Port Arthur. She was born August 29, 1928, in Call, Texas to Bennie Selman Sheffield Palmer and Eugene Addison Palmer.

Marie was not only a devoted lifelong member of First Baptist Church, Nederland but also worked for the church for nineteen years. She sang with the Silver Tones and Celebration Choirs and was a member of the Handbell Choir. She also taught Children’s Sunday School and was the Sunday School Director for Adult 1. Marie was a member of the Pilot Club of Mid-Jefferson County. She installed Lifeline Units in senior citizens homes and worked at the Strawberry Shortcake Booth during the Heritage Festival.

Survivors include her children, Anita Smith and husband, Scott, of Nederland; Mike Lester and wife, DeLaina, of Groves; Bob Lester and wife, Wanda, of Waxahachie, Texas; and Kathy Arena and husband, Mike, of Comfort, Texas; grandchildren, Bobby and wife, Hillary; Jane and husband, Aaron; Christy; Amanda; Amber; Sommer; Lauren; Colby and wife, Sarah; and Travis; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; sister, Barbara Carbaugh and husband Donnie; and sister-in-law, Linda Ford and husband, David.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Bennie and Eugene Palmer; husband, Carroll Wayne Lester; brother, Harold Gene Palmer and wife, Dottie; and grandson, Michael Lester, Jr.

A gathering of Mrs. Lester’s family and friends will begin at 12:30 p.m., with her funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 6, 2020, at First Baptist Church, 1911 Nederland Avenue, Nederland. Her interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.
