Marie Granata Saleme
Marie Granata Saleme, 91, of Beaumont, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 10, 2021. She was born o November 14, 1929, in Beaumont, to Mary Fertitta and Anthony Granata.
Marie graduated from St. Anthony Catholic School and attended Lamar University, where we met Vincent “Babe” Saleme. She retired from Reliable Life Insurance Company after twenty-two years.
She was a devout Catholic and had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother Mary. Marie enjoyed volunteering at Some Other Place, Birthright Inc and St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, where she was a long-time member, to name a few. Marie looked forward to working at the St. Joseph Altar every year and make fig cookies with friends. She loved all social activities, including line dancing at the Best Years Center, attending her monthly Bunco group and celebrating with her neighborhood Birthday Club. Marie especially loved riding her schwinn bike daily in her neighborhood.
Marie hosted many spaghetti dinners and waffle breakfasts at her house for her grandchildren and their friends. She was so proud they both graduated from A&M University. When great-grandchildren came along, they called her “GiGi”, she always greeted them with open arms and special treats when they came to visit. Marie always had a purse full of photos of them to share with everyone. Marie will remain in our hearts as a devoted wife, loving mother, caring grandmother, and GiGi, and a true friend to so many.
Survivors include by her daughter, Mary Aiena and her husband, Thomas; son, Vincent Anthony Saleme and his wife, Diane; grandchildren, Marc Saleme; Tiffany Major and her husband, Benjamin; Stephanie Kultur and her husband Kerem; Vincent Saleme II and his wife, Catherine; great-grandchildren, Jaxon Major, Ford Major, and Olivia Kuktur.
She is preceded in death by Vincent Salame, her best friend, soulmate and devoted husband of 56 years; her parents; and her brother, Joseph Granata.
The family would like to give special thanks and gratitude to all the caregivers at Kindred Hospice.
The safety of family and friends is very important to us. Therefore, a small family graveside service will take place, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.

my mom & i were so sorry to hear of marie's passing. please accept our condolences. marie & babe were both great family friends to my parents. i was always so thankful for that their relationship. i was especially thankful to marie after both her & my mom were widowed. marie would come pick my mom up & mom would go pick her up. they both enjoyed working at the st joseph altar which the highlight of the year for my mom. one of the best things was that they would go pick each other up to go to burger king to share a hamburger. my mom loved doing that & getting out with marie. so your parents were a blessing to my parents & i am thankful our mom's had each other. love & prayers, mike & mary jo cacioppo

Heaven has truly gained a Special Angel. I remember Marie when I was a young girl. Marie was so beautiful and soft spoken and always had a smile on her face. Marie and Babe would help with the Spaghetti Dinners at St. Joseph's Church on Orange Street. Marie and Babe were friends to my parents. I enjoyed working with Marie at St. Jude's Church with Garage Sales, receptions, St. Joseph Altar. Marie & Babe were Charter Members of the Italian American Society of Beaumont and continued to support the organization. Marie truly gave of her Time, Talent and Treasures to her church and was a Faithful to her Heavenly Father and devoted to her faith. Marie loved her family dearly and spoke of them often. I spent alot of time at the Saleme household growing up. Aunt Marie and Uncle Babe were just part of our life. Uncle Babe and Aunt Marie were always there when we needed them, especially when my father was ill. My mom (Rita Dillon) and her cousin Marie were very close. I know that there is a great reuion going on in heaven this very moment.

Marie was our first neighbor "friend" when we moved in 27 years ago. She was always so sweet to use and our son Austin, whom she treated like a grandchild. I will always remember her riding her bike in the neighborhood and sharing garage sale days. Our prayers of comfort for the family.
