Martha "Marti" Lois Ballard

January 28, 1953 - March 23, 2020

Martha “Marti” Lois Ballard, 67, of Groves, died Monday, March 23, 2020. She was born on January 28, 1953, in Port Arthur, to Lois Odelle Dryden Richards and Arlon Henry Richards.

Marti was a devout Christian and attended First Baptist Church, Nederland. She had a heart bigger than herself and was willing to give the shirt off her back to anyone in need. Marti spent countless hours making goodie baggies and distributing them to the homeless around the Golden Triangle.

Marti loved to go on cruises, be with family, and watch westerns all day long. She never met a stranger, and all who knew her loved her to all ends. If there was a family gathering, Marti could be found in the middle of all the festivities.

Marti was “REAL”. If she had an opinion, she spoke it without restraint and was loved for her outspoken ways.

Survivors include her brothers, Nathan Richards and his wife, Kathy, of Mabank and David Richards and his wife, Robbie, of Port Neches; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A family committal was held at Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.

Marti was an angel to me. She was in just the right place, at the right time, to save my life. I will never forget her, and I will always be immeasurably grateful for her. May God bless all of her family and friends.

Martha was a great person and always had a smile on her face. For a couple of years she was involved in the prison ministry at the Leblanc Unit and this is where I first met Martha. She was willing to help in any way she could. The inmates loved her and respected her. Martha is now home

I'm so sorry for your loss. I knew Martha back in JrHign and High School and we belonged to the same church. We grew up during a very rebellious and wild time and I have thought about Martha a few times over the years, but not in a long time. Though just now she came very clearly to my memory and I decided to do an internet search for her. I live up in the NW now. I was so sorry to find I was too late in finding her. She was always good and kind to everyone. Although I haven't seen here since those younger days, I will miss her. I was so happy to read the other comments about her. Sounds like life worked out well for her and she deserved that. Again, my condolences for your loss.

Rest in peace my dear sweet sister in Christ. I felt something was wrong since I had not heard from you since late March and only today learned of your passing. Thank you for your true friendship & humor during challenging times. Will be lifting you up in prayer for your gentle spirit to have eternal peace. Love you always. My condolences to your family, They have lost a shining star that will now be shining down upon us from the heavens.

I just found out that she passed away. I'm devastated. We were never very close but I still consider her family. I've been homeless and without a phone since 2018 until this past November and we haven't seen each other in a couple years. She is in Heaven now with my Daddy.
