Mary Drennon

February 11, 1934 - July 27, 2020

Mary Drennon, 86, formerly of Hemphill, Texas, passed away Monday, July 27, 2020, in Beaumont. She was born February 11, 1934, in Antelope, Texas to Vyda Bowden Hooser and Joseph Bowden.

Mary attended and graduated from Girard High School where she was a proud member of the Cardinal Tennis and Basketball Team. She always looked forward to returning there for the Hooser Family Reunion which included former classmates and neighbors.

Mary was a manager of a retail store in Irving, Texas for fifteen years. In 1979, she was honored by receiving a Jaycees Award for outstanding customer service. After retiring to Toledo Bend Lake in 1982, Mary spent her time enjoying the outdoors. She would go running, fishing, and hunting. She also enjoyed to garden and traveling through the United States and Canada. Mary was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan for sixty-years.

Survivors include her daughter, Tonie Atwood and husband, Russ, of Crystal Beach, Texas; grandsons, Ryan Atwood and wife, Kristen, of Pell City, Alabama; Chase Atwood and wife, Candace, of Northport, Alabama; and Taylor Atwood and wife, Courtney, of Colleyville, Texas; great-grandchildren, Mackinly; Trenton; Ainsley; Grace; Ryder; and Russell; brothers, Travis Hooser, of Alamagordo, New Mexico and Amett Hooser, of Tucumari, New Mexico; and numerous nephews and nieces.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 63 years, Paul; brothers, Guy; Horace; Jack; Bick; Dub; and Nig; sisters, Dink; Virginia; Alene; and Tudy; and many other beloved family members.

The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude for the compassionate care for Mary given by Brookdale Dowlen Oaks, Beaumont and Harbor Hospice, Beaumont.

A family graveside service for Mrs. Drennon was held on Friday, July 31, 2020, at Girard Cemetery in Girard, Texas, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.
