Melba Permenter

September 24, 1931 - February 20, 2018

Melba Jane Permenter, 86, died Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at Riceland Medical Center, Winnie. She was born September 24, 1931, in High Island, to Evelyn Guidry Shaw and Granville Shaw. Melba was a lifetime resident of the High Island area.

Survivors include children, Glen Permenter and his wife, Fe, of Hamshire; Evelyn Charrier of Winnie; Annie Barrow and her husband, Benny and Punckle Permenter, all of High Island; and Wesley Permenter and his wife, Susie, of Hamshire; grandchildren, Robin, Kate, Phil, Brandi, Justin, Josh, Bo, Jessica, and Aaron; twenty great-grandchildren; numerous other family members; and a host of many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of sixty-five years, Willard Permenter; and two brothers.

A gathering of Mrs. Permenter’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 23, 2018, at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church, 1308 Weeks Avenue, High Island. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 24, 2018 at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church, High Island, with interment to follow at High Island Cemetery.
