Michael Lee Stewart

Michael Lee Stewart, 54, of High Island, died Friday, February 17, 2017 in Bridgeport, West Virginia. He was born July 19, 1962, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, to Sylvia Irene Reynolds Winning and James N. Stewart.

Michael was a resident of High Island and longtime member of St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church. He was a licensed minister, with service of twenty-five years; He especially loved bluegrass gospel and was an accomplished guitar and mandolin player.  

Survived by wife, GinGee Stewart, of High Island; son, Johnathan Russell Stewart and his wife, Sara, of Groves; father, James N. Stewart of Salem, West Virginia; sister, Kristy Stewart Sorensen, of Nederland; brothers, James R. Stewart and his wife, Kathy, and Timothy Paul Stewart and his wife, Donna, all of Salem, West Virginia; step-brothers, John J. Winning, III and his wife, Joyce, of Boiling Springs, South Carolina; and Richard A. Winning, of Richmond, Virginia; step-sisters, Cheryl A. Miller, and her husband, Glenn, of Inman, South Carolina; and Marlene Cowan, and her husband, Joe, of Ireland; grandchildren, James Michael Stewart and JonniSue Roxanne Stewart, both of Groves; and many nieces; nephews; and close friends.  

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sylvia Reynolds Stewart Winning; and step-father, John J. Winning, Jr.

A gathering of Mr. Stewart’s family and friends will be at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 24, 2017, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 25, 2017, at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church of High Island, 1308 Weeks Ln., High Island, with interment to follow at High Island Cemetery.
