Nancy Fertitta

March 22, 1925 - December 23, 2018

Nancy Marie Ippolito Fertitta, 93, of Beaumont, died on Sunday, December 23, 2018. She was born on March 22, 1925 to Lena and Joe Ippolito in Beaumont and was a lifelong resident. On August 18, 1943 at the age of eighteen, she married the love of her life, Joseph F. “Pep” Fertitta. Upon his return from World War II, they began their wonderful life together with sixty-five years of marriage.

As a stay at home wife and mother, she dedicated her life to her husband and four children, her extended family, and numerous friends. Her home was one of faith, love, and friendship. Her door was open to all, and yes, they had to sit at the table and “mangia”. She was a gourmet cook who mastered Italian, French, French Cajun, and Creole, and, yes, desserts and all candies and pastries. Her cannoli and cream puffs were sought after. She always enjoyed a good game of poker and bridge.

As a very devout Catholic, her faith was a powerful cornerstone of her life and she passed that on to her family. The Blessed Mother and her devotion to the Holy Rosary was a constant in her life.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph “Pep” Fertitta; and son, Charles G. Fertitta.

Survivors include her daughter, JoAnnette Fertitta; sons, Joseph F. Fertitta, Jr., and his wife, Sandy; and Donald P. Fertitta; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Fertitta; grandchildren, Anna Carter and her husband, Nathan; Charles G. Fertitta, Jr., and his wife, Gina; Nancy Swanston and her husband, Steve; Eric Yeager and his wife, Susana; Alicia Croley and her husband, Collin; Alison Nobles and her husband, Chris; Joseph Fertitta, III, and his wife, Sarah; Michelle Strawman and her husband, David; Stephanie Huston and her husband, Chris; and Sterling Fertitta; eighteen great-grandchildren; sister, Annette Messina; brother-in-law, Carlo J. Busceme, Jr.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to extend a thank you to Nancy’s caregivers; Wanda Johnson, Roberta Smith, Carolyn Webb, Tabatha Sims, and Janet Guzman and all of the staff at Harbor Hospice of Beaumont.

A gathering of Mrs. Fertitta’s family and friends will begin at 5:00 p.m., with a Christian Vigil and Rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m., Friday, January 4, 2019, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 5, 2019, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 6825 Gladys Avenue, Beaumont, with a reception to follow in the Culotta Hall. Her entombment will be 2:00 p.m., at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas, 2780 Eastex Freeway, Beaumont, Texas 77703.

She was truly my dear 1st cousin, who I admired so much. She was also my God Mother, and she often remarked how proud she was to hold that title. She was special, and we were close. So many happy memories, and she will always remain in my heart, with love, My sympathy is extended to Joseph, Donald, Joey, Charley, and Anna the children of Charles and Phyliss , and all of their families. My husband Paul is ill, and I may not be able to attend the services in Beaumont, but he sends his warm thoughts along with me to all, Anita Savino Fournier

I enjoyed working and caring for Ms. Nancy. She would always say something funny and make us laugh. "Me, oh my, small fry". Prayers for the family.

My Aunt Nancy was very caring person who cared more about others then herslef. I have wonderful memories of her and one of many was her baking bread and marking her son Donald and I deliver it all over town to friends and family members. I never knew way she didn’t open a bakery. She was a wonderful cook. The table was always open for another to eat. She was my mother’s only sibling and they were very close. Aunt Nancy, my mother’s sister, was one of the kindest ladies I know. Her love for her Savior, Jesus Christ shined through her heart daily. So many wonderful memories but a few come to mind. Aunt Nancy loved to shop and I would go shopping with her at the Gateway Shopping Center. The other is when she taught me to make Almond Roca. and her love for chocolate. Nancy was a client of mine for many years and I was so fond of her. I enjoyed hearing her stories about family faith and food! She never failed to speak about her beloved Pep and missed him so much - I'm sure she is rejoicing eternally with him now.
