Opal Mae Brown

Miss Opal Brown passed away at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston, Texas, at 1:53 PM on September 2, 2020.

There will be memorial Sunrise Celebration of Life service held in her honor on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at 7:00 a.m. at the “Y” on Hwy 87 in High Island, Texas. All family, friends, and those whose lives were touched by her are invited to attend.

Opal Brown was born in Port Arthur, Texas, at St Mary’s Hospital on September 18, 1941. She was the fourth daughter of Amos Trice Brown, Sr. and Cleo Olive Tatum Brown. She spent her life serving Jesus Christ. Everyone who knew Opal Brown always noticed her kindness and love for the people around her. She was a high school math teacher by profession and taught the majority of her career at High Island High School, serving in the High Island Baptist Church during her tenure. She was an example of Christian faith to the community and her family. She helped thousands of students and their families, as well as siblings, nieces, nephews, and strangers in any way possible to better their lives, and most importantly invited each person she helped to attend Church, in order to learn about the saving power of Jesus Christ. She took family and friends into her home and helped them better their lives. She was the caregiver for her stepmother Norma Brown until she passed away in 2011. She was a humble servant with the IQ of a genius. She will be terribly missed by everyone who had the opportunity to know her.  Her family will always feel her absence and will never forget the kindness and love that she gave to them unconditionally. Opal Brown never married but was never lonely. She devoted herself to the children in her family and, until the day she died, was that Aunt they could always count on to be there for them. Her mission here is completed with us and she has entered into her heavenly rest with Jesus the true love of her life.

She is survived by her sister, Shirley Partlow; brother, Dan Brown and wife, Becky; sister, Bobbi Miller; and sister-in-law, Suzie Brown; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces, great-great-nephews and great-great-nieces, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her father, Amos T Brown, Sr.; mother, Cleo Olive Brown; and step-mother, Norma Brown; sister Olive Odem and husband, A.C Odem; sister, Lavella Railey and husband, Donald Railey; brother, Amos T. Brown, Jr.; brother, Alvin Brown and wife, Jean Brown; brother- in-law, Leeland Partlow; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and cousins.
