Pat Pate Griffith

April 30, 1947 - December 24, 2020

Pat Pate Griffith, 73, of Hamshire, Texas entered the gates of heaven on Thursday, December 24, 2020. Born on April 30, 1947 in Beaumont, she was the first born to Connie and W. L. Pate, Sr.

Pat, or GG as her grandchildren affectionately called her (Pat claimed this was the abbreviation for Gorgeous Grandmother), was a devoted Christian who anyone could count on for empathy, prayer and wise counsel. She is known for her vivacious spirit, loving kindness and joyful demeanor. She brightened any room she entered, and people were naturally drawn to her smile, laugh and sparkling eyes. Pat did not know a stranger and almost every encounter resulted in new friends, admirers, and in many cases, new brothers and sisters in Christ.

Pat Griffith was a loving sister of the faith and staunch advocate of the gospel. Her greatest desire was for the salvation of mankind and the return of Jesus to a broken world. Her daily routine of study, prayer, supplication, and thanksgiving was first and foremost for her beloved family and friends. For this she prayed continuously with an earnest and loving heart. It is with hopeful assurance of those who knew Pat best, that her advocacy for her loved ones continues in the heavenly realms at the feet of the Messiah. Pat was a Bible believing woman and she took to heart the direction given in 1 Timothy 2:1   First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men. So many of us have been divinely blessed by Pat’s petitions.

Survivors include her daughter Tamara Kelso (Kent) of Martin, TN and son Pate Jones of Newton, TX. Grandchildren are Paten Jones, Kaeden Kelso, Kellan Kelso, and Presley Parra. Brothers and sister W.L. Pate, Jr. (Sherrene), Pam Pate and Robert Pate (Sandy). Nieces and nephews include Suzanne Pate, Jennifer Pate, Devin Riley, Rob Pate and Stefanie Williams. Aunts Barbara Mattison and Bobbie Baggett and Uncles Don Warren and Pat Warren along with numerous cousins.

The family would also like to acknowledge others who were special to her including her beloved sisters-in-law and numerous close friends which include her dedicated prayer warrior sisters with whom she shared many devotions, supplications and miracles and her dear friends who shared a table and coffee at Rao’s on a regular basis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, W.L. Sr. and Connie Marie, who provided the foundation of her faith, values, and character.

A gathering of Pat’s family and friends will be from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., Thursday, December 31, 2020, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. Her graveside service will be 3:00 p.m., Thursday, December 31, 2020, at Magnolia Cemetery 2291 Pine Street, Beaumont.  Pallbearers include her son, three grandsons, Josh Hansen and Randy Byers. Honorary pallbearers are Devin Riley and Tyler Hansen. If you have a special memory to share, please write it in a card and bring it to Broussard’s or mail it to 16100 Brush Island Rd, Winnie, TX 77665.

In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations to the Hope Women’s Resource Center, 3740 Laurel Ave., Beaumont, TX 77707.

The family respectfully requests that those attending either the visitation or graveside service stay safe while honoring her memory. Masks, social distancing, and limited interactions with others during visitation are necessary to ensure as safe an event as possible. The family understands that there are those who may not be able to attend because of these concerns.

My heart is saddened to hear of her passing. Ms. Pat always had a warm smile and sweet charm when I would go to the eye doctor. when I was teen. She would sit with me occasionally while I waited to see the doctor and just talk to me. She will always have a special place in my heart. I pray for peace and comfort for the whole family. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.

I’m sadden By the loss of my dear friend. Pat was one of the kindest, loving, most generous person I’ve had the privilege of knowing. She never look down on someone except to pull them up! I was fortunate enough to meet her several years ago and became instant friends. If I didn’t call her, she would call me. The first thing she would say on the phone was, ”hereeey” with that Pat Griffith deep southern drawl, and we would both laugh for a few minutes. I was always fascinated by the people she knew. From ex-president’s to the who’s who in Hollywood! The stories she would tell! I would often kid her by asking her if she covertly worked for the CIA, and she would give me that famous (Pat stare) lol. if you knew her; you would know the stare! To say I’m heartbroken is an understatement! Pat touched the lives of an immeasurable amount of people., There will definitely be a hole in the place where she stood! The lives of those who were blessed enough to meet her will never be the same! The only solace is we who loved her, will one day see her again. 2 Corinthians 5:8”.....to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” Until then my friend. May God bless her family!

Pat was such a loving, caring, woman of God. I met her around 1990 but didn't get the opportunity to know her personally until 2009. We went to intercession together which means we shared personal testimonies often, and I was honored to pray with her when life was somewhat difficult for her.. However, no matter how tough things were, Pat was always ready to serve others in any way she could. I haven't seen her a few years but the last time we ran into each other at a beach retreat service, and we sat in the back catching up. I loved her dearly, as I love her sister, Pam. God will surely say "well done my good and faithful servant".

Diane Cannon

So sorry for the loss of beautiful, sweet Pat! God Bless Her!

Dear children and family, my heartfelt condolences to you. Pat was a great light and a giving, loving Christian and person by her very nature. We were neighbors when she lived on Brandywine and it was a delight to know her. Her beauty and wisdom were always present. I am devastated for your loss but I know where she shines now - in the literal arms of Jesus Christ. My best to you.

Pat was an amazing friend. When you spoke, she truly listened. Once she turned her attention to you, you were the only person in the room. When she smiled at you, she meant it. Her hugs were priceless. She lit every room she walked in to. She was kind and gentle. I will miss her forever.

Melanie Maxwell Rivers

To Pam and family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss, it is a great one. You all will be in my thoughts and prayers. I hope that you will find comfort in your many memories you share and God’s promise at Revelation 21:4

Southeast Texas just got a little dimmer but heaven is most certainly brighter! We should follow Pat's example and be bold in our faith. Her smile was contagious and so was her positive attitude. She was a Proverbs 31 woman. Praying for her family and friends.

My sincerest sympathies for the entire family and everyone who is surely impacted by the loss of such a beautiful, wonderful soul. Ms. Pat mentored me, prayed with me and for me and was there for my ‘precious children’ (I can her her voice as I type this). Never have I ever had a better neighbor and friend than she. I’ll miss her sweet texts and the updates from my kiddos when they would bounce across the street to see and spend time with her. Our hearts are broken, yet every single time a tear slips down my cheek I can feel her reminding me that she is beyond elated at where she is now - with our Heavenly Father. ❤️
