Patricia “Patsy” Viterbo

January 17, 1937 - September 1, 2017

Patricia “Patsy” Ann Moreau Viterbo, 80, of Nederland, died Friday, September 1, 2017. She was born in Alexandria, Louisiana, and moved to Port Arthur at the age of six weeks.

Patsy attended Port Arthur schools and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1955, where she was a member of the Red Hussars and involved in student government. Upon graduation, she completed X-ray training at St. Mary’s Hospital and was employed as an X-ray technician at Park Place Hospital for seven years. In 1959, she married Jules Ralph Viterbo and they moved to Nederland, where they made their home for the next fifty years. In 1975, Patsy completed her B.S. degree in Elementary education at Lamar University. She began a second career at Langham Elementary in Nederland I.S.D., where she taught first and second grade for twenty-two years. Patsy finished her Masters at Lamar in 1984. Additionally, she taught CCE at St. Charles Parish, was active in Delta Kappa Gamma Professional Educators Society, the Nederland Educational Foundation, the Association of University Women, and Mid-County Aggie Moms.

Survivors include her son, Edward Viterbo and his wife, Suzanne, of Katy; daughter, Elizabeth and spouse, David McLaughlin, of Houston; daughter, Catherine and spouse, Dean Ballard, of Friendswood; and 4 grandchildren, Gregory, Joseph and Patrick McLaughlin, and Emelie Nelson.

She was preceded in death by Mr. Viterbo in 2012.

A gathering of Mrs. Viterbo’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with her Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Monday, September 11, 2017, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 211 Hardy Avenue, Nederland, with her interment to follow at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County, Nederland.
