R.G. Allen, Sr.

March 22, 1932 - February 9, 2020

R.G. Allen, Sr., 87, of Nederland, died Sunday, February 9, 2020, at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas, Port Arthur. He was born March 22, 1932, in Beaumont, to Mary Lee Fields Allen and Freddie Lee Allen, Sr.

R.G. was a United States Army veteran having served during the Korean War. He was a kind man that was always willing lend a helping hand or a listening ear to anyone who needed it. He was known for having a green thumb and for making a great gumbo. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, carpentry, and telling jokes.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie Allen, of Nederland; sons, Richard Allen, Jr., of Nederland; David Allen, Sr. and his wife, Lisa, of Woodville; and Ronnie Allen and his wife, Shelly, of Nederland; grandchildren, Teri Phillips; Jason Brocato; Lee Grant Allen; David W. Allen, Jr.; Freddie Wolfe IV; Shannon Wolfe; and Ailee Allen; twenty great-grandchildren; brother, Rogers Allen and his wife, Mackie, of Fannett; and sisters, Juanita Albritton, of Pasadena and Minnette LaGrone, of Colmesneil.

R.G. is preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Freddie Allen, Sr.; brother, Fred Allen, Jr.; and sister, Evelyn Allen.

A Rosary for Mr. Allen will be recited at 5:00 p.m., with his gathering to follow until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 12, 2020, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 13, 2020, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 211 Hardy Avenue, Nederland, with his interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.

Memorial contributions may be made to Butler Redd American Legion Post 493, 922 Boston Avenue, Nederland, Texas 77627.
