Richard "Dick" Lamar Kernechel, Sr.

May 21, 1938 - July 6, 2021

Richard “Dick” Lamar Kernechel, 83, of Lumberton, died Tuesday, July 6, 2021.  He was born on May 21, 1938, in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, to Sarah Shaffer Kernechel and William Kernechel.  Mr. Kernechel is a United States Air Force Veteran.

He retired from Gulf Copper as a ship captain after over fifty years at sea.  Mr. Kernechel enjoyed saltwater fishing and lived as a Christian man.  He dedicated his time and money to help children at Voth Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughters, Vicki Gibbs, Lisa Bennett, and Kelly Keith, all of Lumberton; son, Richie Kernechel of Lumberton; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Walt Kernechel and his wife, Ann, of Pennsylvania; and numerous other relatives and friends.  He is preceded in death by his wife of forty-seven years, Gloria Kernechel; parents; son, Randy Kernechel; and several siblings.

A gathering of Mr. Kernechel’s family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 8, 2021, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.  His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 9, 2021, at Voth Baptist Church, 11245 Church Road, Beaumont, with his interment to follow at 1:00 p.m., at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
