Richard W. Klukas
Richard W. Klukas, 81, of Atwater, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2021. He was born to Hannora Wheeler and Richard Klukas in Willmar, Minnesota. Richard was a devoted husband and enjoyed being a father. He graduated from University of Minnesota. Richard was a retired Park Service Biologist. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. Richard was an avid collector of antiques.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrt; parents, Richard and Monica; and brother, Tom. Survivors include his three brothers, two sons, one daughter-in-law, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three caregivers, and numerous cousins and friends.
A Memorial Mass for Mr. Klukas will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 3, 2021, at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2715 Calder Avenue, Beaumont, Texas. A joint gathering of family and friends for Mr. Klukas and his brother, Tom, will begin at 9:30 a.m., with their memorial service to follow at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 11, 2021 at Church of Our Lady of the Lakes, 6680 153rd Avenue NE, Spicer, Minnesota. Burial of Mr. Klukas’ cremated body will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 14, 2021, at Ada Cemetery, Ada Minnesota. Cremation arrangements for Mr. Klukas were handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, under the directions of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont, Texas.

We first met Rich and Myrt at our son, Peter's wedding.. They were a precious, lively couple with whom we shared over dinner conversation a love for travel. Over the years we kept in touch with pictures and Christmas letters. Even after Myrt's passing we were touched that, Rich continued to write us and share family news. He was a great writer! We were thrilled to renew our friendship when he moved to Texas and we got to visit more.. A kind, gentle soul who continued to teach us patience and love and faith in just his being.. "Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and may perpetual light shine upon him and the faithful departed.. May he rest in peace. Amen." Tom and Tim, I was very sad to hear of Rich's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your families. I thoroughly enjoyed working with your father during my four plus years at Wind Cave. He always kept things in perspective.. It wasn't until much later in my career in the NPS , that I came to realize how much I had learned from him while working and assisting him on many of his field projects as a park technician. He instilled in me an appreciation for the rules and regulations of the Environmental Protection Act which served me well during the remainder of my career as a park ranger and fire management officer.
