Rita "Sue" Holt

October 31, 1929 - October 21, 2020

Rita (Sue) Kotz Holt, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on October 21, 2020 at the age of 91 following a lengthy illness. Born on October 31, 1929 in Beaumont, Texas, she was preceded in death by her loving husband Thomas Robert (T R) Holt, son Leslie W. Holt, parents Rita and Willie J. Kotz, and brothers Willie, Jr., Marlin and Frank Kotz.

Sue grew up in Beaumont and was very close to her family and extended family throughout her childhood and teen years. She graduated from South Park High School in 1948 and married T.R. that same year. Sue and T.R. raised three children and resided in Stowell, Jackson’s Pasture, Orange, and Winnie, Texas during their 35 years together. During this time, Sue devoted her life to her husband and three children. Her children loved coming home from school to see what aromas were drifting from the kitchen. You see, Sue was an excellent cook and loved to bake pies, cakes and cookies for all occasions.

After her children were grown and T.R.’s death in 1983 her life was forever changed. Although she never recovered from T.R.’s death, Sue filled her weekdays and nights making beautiful quilts for family and friends. Her quilts were all hand-made, and a treasure for all that were lucky enough to receive one. On the weekends she would stay with her daughters and to enjoy family time and grandchildren. When her mobility became more difficult, she moved to Humble, Texas to be near her daughters.

Sue was a long-time member of the Winnie-Stowell Methodist Church, and an active participant in the church’s quilting circle for many years.

Sue Holt is survived by her daughters, Karen Holt Pace and Nancy Holt Brooks; son-in-laws, Jeffrey Pace and Mark Brooks; grandchildren, Lisa Holt Beck, Amy Pace Parra, Ross Brooks and Lindsey Brooks; five great-grandchildren, Lacey Monceau, Rayli Hickox, Warren Parra, Fernando Parra and Jett Schultz (Beck); and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank the staff of Avalon Assisted Living Memory Care in Humble for their excellent care of Sue for the past two years.

A gathering of Mrs. Holt’s family and friends will be from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 25, 2020 at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont, followed by her graveside service at 3:00 p.m., at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, 110 West Harrison Street, Livingston, Texas 77351.
