Robert Cruse, Jr.

March 23, 1942 - July 18, 2018

Robert Leon Cruse, Jr., 76, of Lumberton, died July 18, 2018. He was born on March 23, 1942, to Lillian E. McBride Cruse and Robert Leon Cruse, in Colmesneil.

Robert was a very honest and moral man. He was a man of few words but when he spoke you knew to listen because he had something significant to say. Above all he was a man of his word. You could “take it to the bank. “

Robert loved the outdoors and had many hobbies and interests. Until his health started declining he took great pride in keeping our yard beautifully groomed. He never did anything half way. Everything he did or said was thought out and created in his mind like a blueprint.  I cannot imagine life without him (57 years) but I know he is in a much better place totally free from pain and suffering.

My comfort is the assurance he now has a new heavenly body. I will always miss him and selfishly wish for him, but he will always be in my heart.

I love you darling and I know you are with your loved ones and your spirit lives with us. Go fly high in your New body!!!

There are fathers and there are dads. There are dads and there are lots of good dads. There are lots of good dads and there are a few great dads. There are a few great dads and then there is the man we are here today celebrating his life, my dad. My Dad was much more than any son could ask for. He was my provider, my protector, my mentor, my hunting buddy, my fishing partner, my coach, my teacher, and my friend. I have been blessed throughout my life to have this man as my dad.

My last memory of my dad in one of his weakest moments was the sweetest smile. As far back as I can remember he always had that sweet smile. He loved me so much and I felt it every time I walked in the room. His eyes would light up. My flaws are many, but I knew in my dad’s eyes he thought I was perfect. Although I will miss him dearly, I know he will be with us in spirit. He will never have to miss another ballgame or milestone for he will have the best seat in the house. Until we meet again, I will find comfort in knowing that his pain is gone, his mind is at peace and his tired body is at rest. And our family will find comfort when reflecting on all of our precious memories, his endearing smile, his honesty, his loyalty, his strength, his wisdom, and his undying and unconditional love.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Cruse of Lumberton; son, Randy Cruse and his wife, Holli, of Lumberton and daughter, Kim Burbank and her husband, Tom, of Beaumont; grandchildren, Katelyn Cruse; Ty Cruse, Paige Burbank, Thomas Burbank, William Burbank, and Annalise Burbank.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ernie Cruse and Don Cruse; and sister, Nelda Walters.

A gathering of Mr. Cruse’s family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 20, 2018, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 21, 2018, at Broussard’s. A private family graveside service will be held at Egypt Cemetery, Colmesneil.

Margaret and family, so sorry for your loss. Robert and I grew up in the same neighborhood, our parents were friends.

Robert could turn the world on with his smile. In class - in the hall - he would turn his head and give that great beaming smile. Always made one feel better.. Love and prayers to his family and they move through loss with memories and love.

Such a sweet man. I can still see him standing on that fence line at W.ELL. Always had a smile and a big Hello! ❤️
