Roberta Choate

April 9, 1929 - February 28, 2019

Roberta Theresa Choate, 89, of Nederland, died Thursday, February 28, 2019, at the Senior Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center, Port Arthur. She was born April 9, 1929, in St. Martinville, Louisiana, to Manilla Geoffery Bernard and Willie Bernard.

Survivors include her children, Francis Choate, Jr. and his wife, Shirley, of Beaumont; Katherine Haynes and her husband, Michael, of Nederland; Danny Choate and his wife, Ginger, of Denton; Krista Jones, of Beaumont; and Tammy Puckett and her husband, Roger, of Spring; grandchildren, Melissa DeGarmo; Joshua Haynes; Jessica Smith; and Micah Choate; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Johnal Bernard; and sister, Madeline Bowers and her husband, Roger.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Manilla and Willie Bernard; husband, Francis Choate, Sr.; son, Kim Choate; grandson, Jeremiah Jones; granddaughter, Michelle Haynes; brothers, Willie Bernard, Jr. and Donald Bernard; and sisters, Lily LeBlanc and Joyce Landry.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the Senior Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center; Gulf Health Care Center; and Heart to Heart Hospice for their loving care.

A gathering of Mrs. Choate’s family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2019, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 4, 2019, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 211 Hardy Avenue, Nederland, with interment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves.
