Ronald Cassell

March 5, 1953 - March 17, 2018

Ronald Lee Cassell, known as Ronnie (or Rodney), passed away peacefully March 17, 2018, at the age of 65.

He was born March 5, 1953, in Liberty. The day after graduating from Warren High School in 1971 he went to work for Southern Pacific (now Union Pacific) Railroad where he worked as a conductor until he retired in 1998.

In September 1974, he married the love of his life, Lynne, whom he affectionately called “Mrs. Cassell.” They had forty-three wonderful years together. Their son Andy was born in 1977 and then Jenny in 1979.

He looked forward to hosting a weekly poker game on Thursday nights where he happily made supper for the guys. Usually a new recipe he found on the internet, trying to avoid onions and peppers for Charlie, of course. He also enjoyed trips to the casinos (usually with Bubba and Joe), when asked if he won, he would always reply, “Oh, a dollar or two.”

Ronnie could always be found with a good cup of coffee in hand and a smile on his face. He never met a stranger. Quick with a good story and fast to aid someone in need, he was always kind and helpful to others. He had a true Servants Heart. Ronnie always did what was right and good. He will be missed by so very many.

His pride and joy were his three grandchildren, Mia, Ford, and Claire. He was more than just a grandfather, he was their best friend. A playmate when young and biggest fan at their events later. He will forever watch over them.

Survivors include his wife, Lynne Cassell; children, Andrew Cassell and Jenny Ivey and her husband, Glenn, all of Willis; grandchildren, Mia Cassell, Ford Ivey, and Clarcie Ivey; mother, Barbara Woodall, of Whitney; siblings, John Cassell and his wife, Beverly; and Alice Duncan, all of Whitney; Lisa Barham and her husband, Paul, of Southlake; Jodie Birkland and her husband, Dwayne, of Orangefield; Joe Parker, Jr. and his wife, Betty, of Silsbee; and Lance Parker of Plano. He is preceded in death by his father; and sister, Ginger Davis.

A gathering of Ronnie’s family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee. His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at Broussard’s, with his interment to follow at Knupple Cemetery, Silsbee.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to PAWS Beaumont, c/o Tammy Smith, 190 Lois Lane, Vidor, Texas 77662 or Life Force “Operation Spay”, P.O. Box 12589, Beaumont, Texas 77726.

My deepest condolences to the Cassell family and everyone's life touched by Ronnie. What a great man, he'll be sorely missed. Andy and I were buddies in High School and practically lived at the Cassell house. Ronnie never knew how much influence he had on the man I ended up becoming, he was truly like a second father. May you rest in peace knowing you only brought love and kindness to this world. God bless everyone during this hard time.
