Ruby Nell Broussard

Ruby Nell Achee Broussard, 90, passed away on October 20, 2018, in Round Rock, Texas.

Born on October 7, 1928, in Port Arthur, Texas, to Samuella and Donelson Achee, Ruby Nell was the oldest of 4 children. At 3 years of age, she lost her hearing and became an active member of the deaf community. Ruby Nell attended Chinchuba Deaf-Mute Institute in Louisiana as a young child and then transferred to Texas State School for the Deaf in Austin, Texas. As an adult, she worked at Shepherd’s Laundry as a seamstress and Gibson’s Discount Store as an Inventory Clerk. Ruby Nell could always be found with a smile on her face and was a true believer in the gift of giving. She loved dancing, roses, dogs and ice cream and will forever hold a special place in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Those left to honor and cherish her memory are sisters, Polly Bryer of Houston, Texas and Dianne Carrey of Pearland, Texas; brother, Dr. Wiley (Butch) Kitchens and wife, Mary, of Jacksonville, Florida; and daughters, Judy Greenberg of Manor, Texas and Sandy Maness (Steve), of Kingwood, Texas. Ruby Nell was loved by her grandchildren, Shea Maness Stakes (Lee), of Kingwood, Texas, Dr. Michelle Greenberg Anson (Byron) of San Antonio, Texas, Shelby Maness Averett, of Columbus, Georgia, and Heather Greenberg of Manor, Texas. In addition, 10 great-grandchildren,1 great-great-grandchild and many cousins, nieces and nephews will always remember Ruby’s sweet smile.

Ruby Nell is preceded in death by her parents, Samuella Vidrine Ellender and Donelson Soully (Polly) Achee; husband, Joseph Harold Broussard, and grandson, Stephen Reed Maness II.

A gathering of Mrs. Broussard’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Friday, October 26, 2018, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
