Samuel J. Maida

Samuel J. Maida, 87, of Beaumont, died Sunday, September 16, 2018. He was born on June 27, 1931, to Tessie and Christopher Maida, in Beaumont.

Sam attended school in Beaumont and graduated from Beaumont High. He then served in the United States Navy for four years during the Korean War. Sam served aboard the aircraft carrier the USS Leyte and the cruiser, USS Macon.

He owned and operated the J&J Fence Company in the Beaumont, Woodville, and Jasper area. He coached his son’s little league team, the Jets. Sam was an avid fisherman and was one of the founding members of the Beaumont Bassmasters Club. Sam won seventy-five or more trophies in fishing tournaments.

Survivors include his wife, Billie Maida; daughter, Terri Ardis and her husband, Billy, of Vidor; sons, Cyril “Beau” Maida and his wife, Dana, of Vidor; Timothy Stephens and his wife, Stella, of Beaumont; and Daniel Stephens and his wife, Linda of Silsbee; daughter, Sherry McKee and her husband, Alan, of Silsbee; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-seven great grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Mary Maida, Sandra Maida, and Elizabeth Maida; son, Sam Maida; brother, Christopher Maida; and sisters, Dorothy Petty, Mary Adams, Joyce McCoy, and Shirley Wingate.

A gathering of Mr. Maida’s family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 20, 2018, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont.
