Sara Winberry

August 4, 1933 - August 16, 2018

Sara Ann Winberry, 85, of Sour Lake, went to be with her heavenly Father, Thursday, August 16, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 4, 1933, to Dora Cooper Stanley and Luther Russell Stanley, in Electric Mills, Mississippi. Sara was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Sour Lake and a BYKOTA teacher at the church. She was also a dedicated, longtime teacher at Sour Lake Elementary School. After retirement, she continued serving her church, spending time with her grandchildren, and traveling with her husband and family members.

Survivors include her son, Marcus Winberry and his wife, Renee C., of Conroe; daughters, Dorian Gaye Lokey and her husband, Jeff, of Spring and Lynda Holder and her husband, Mike, of Sour Lake; sister, Dorie Gay of Mobile, Alabama; brother, Donald Stanley and his wife, Rusty, of Cleveland, Georgia; grandchildren, Taylor Winberry Willingham and her husband, Ryan; Sara Grace Winberry; Blake Lokey; Daniel Lokey; Caitlin Holder Ford and her husband, Michael; and Luke Holder and his wife, Kayla; great-grandchildren, Leah Ford, Kailey Ford, Kamden Ford, Lincoln Ford, Mackenzie Willingham, Brenley Willingham; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Lee Winberry and brothers, Wallace, Max, and Roswell Stanley.

A gathering of Mrs. Winberry’s family and friends will begin at 9:30 a.m., with her funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 21, 2018, at First Baptist Church, 765 6th Street, Sour Lake. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery, Sour Lake, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 700 North Street, Suite M, Beaumont, Texas 77701; or the First Baptist Church of Sour Lake, P.O. Box 537, Sour Lake, Texas 77659. If you would like to bring school supplies to be donated to Sour Lake Elementary, please bring it to First Baptist Church.

She will be dearly missed. I’ve never known a more kind spoken, more welcoming, loving person. She was truly one of a kind. Her love for the Lord showed through and through.
