Sarah L. Stark

August 6, 1923 - September 8, 2017

Sarah L. Stark, 94, of Sour Lake, went to be with her Lord, Friday, September 8, 2017. She was born August 6, 1923 in Voth, Texas, to Oswald Echols Phillips and Merle Rutland Phillips.

Sarah graduated from Beaumont High School and married her husband, of over seventy years, George Robert Stark in August of 1942. This marriage to a career Naval Officer led to many travels and residences in Newport, Rhode Island and Key West, Florida. Navy retirement, after thirty years of service, allowed Sarah and George to return to Texas in 1964 where they both enjoyed their longstanding membership in the First Baptist Church of Bevil Oaks.

Survivors include her daughter, Diane Stark of Nashville, Tennessee; and many nieces and nephews.

A gathering of Mrs. Stark’s family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., with her funeral service to follow at 2:30p.m., Saturday, September 23, 2017, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Bevil Oaks, 7725 Sweetgum Road, Beaumont, Texas 77713 or to Salvation Army Emergency Shelter, 2350 Interstate 10 East, Beaumont, Texas 77703.
