Sharon Monk

June 14, 1951 - July 19, 2018

Surrounded by her loving family, Ann Sharon Monk peacefully entered into eternal glory on July 19, 2018, at the age of 67, in Beaumont, Texas.

Sharon was born to Flora and Frank Davidson in Rock Hill, South Carolina, on Flag Day, June 14th, 1951. Her family moved to Texas when she was a teenager, and she later went on to attend Sam Houston State University and Lamar University where she earned her teaching degree.  She spent her life raising her family and teaching students in Southeast Texas.

Her life was well lived as the beloved wife of Wayne, the adoring mother of Heather, Jamie, and Daren, the proud mother-in-law to David, Jason, and Jill, and her favorite role was Nana to her eleven “Grands”, Kyrk, Bethany, Michaela, Ethan, Zachary, Anna, Breece, Billy, Brinley, Wesley, and Preston.

Known as “Mrs. Monk” to her students, Sharon devoted her life to teaching.  She had a wonderful, compassionate way with students, their families, and her teaching peers.  She was a faithful prayer warrior, encourager, and cheerleader to them and anyone she came in contact with.

For twenty years she volunteered by serving the nurses of Nurses Christian Fellowship at a retreat in Round Top, Texas where she cooked, cleaned, and decorated.  The atmosphere and community she found there was something she always cherished.

Sharon loved to read, travel, and spend time with her grandchildren. Her life was filled with joy and laughter.  She wanted her life to be lived for God’s glory so that people that knew her would know Jesus better.

Sharon is survived by her loving husband of forty-six years, Wayne; two daughters, Heather (David) and Jamie (Jason); one son, Daren (Jill); grandchildren, Kyrk, Michaela, Zachary and Anna, Bethany, Ethan, Billy and Wesley, Breece, and Brinley and Preston; brother, Ray (Ginny); brother-in-law, Pat (Marti); sisters-in-law, Janice (Don) and Sheila (Art); nieces, Melanie and Stacey; nephews, Matthew, Johnathan, John, Benjamin, AJ; and many extended family members.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Flora & Frank Davidson; her parents-in-law, Vonnie & James Monk; and her sister-in-law, Kathy Monk.

A gathering of Sharon’s family and friends will be 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Saturday, July 21, 2018, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee. A celebration of her life will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 22, 2018, at First Baptist Church, 350 Highway 96 South, Silsbee, with her interment to follow at Hardin Memorial Park, Silsbee.

In lieu of flowers, please bring backpacks filled with school supplies to the visitation or funeral service to honor Sharon’s love of teaching.  These will be donated to children in need.  Monetary donations can be made in memory of Sharon Monk to Community Christian School, 3400 Martin Luther King Jr Drive, Orange, Texas 77632.

Many years ago at FBC Beaumont, Sharon was so kind and encouraging when my kids were just starting Mother’s Day Out,. She had the same sweet smile and spirit when I would see her years later. Truly a special lady, I know she will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with the family,

Dear Wayne and family, I have very fond memories of your mother. When I lived in Lumberton and attended Crestwood she was also so kind to me and I don't think I remember not seeing a smile on her face. When the youth group did D-Now, my group of girls stayed at her home. She was so hospitable and always willing to serve. I know you all will miss her dearly. Please know I'm praying for comfort and strength in the days ahead.

Wayne, I am not sure if you remember me...I was part of the youth at FBC Beaumont. I just heard about Sharon...I am so sorry. Such beautiful memories of the time spent with y'all.

My sincere condolences to the family at this difficult time. May you all seek God for comfort, peace, strength and support (2 Cor 1:3).
